Raging alcoholic for over a decade. When my alcoholism was at it's worst the last 4 years of it was 12 beers and a pint of Jose Cuervo every day. Cocaine every weekend. I'm very fortunate to have hit the genetic jackpot and come out of it at age 32 in good shape. The human body can take a frickin beating.

One of my childhood best friends brother drank himself to death, it was hard to watch.

He would buy the handles by the box

EMS saved him several times but he finally was found dead in his trailer alone

Fraternity brother of mine, I don't really know him any more except to keep up with him on social media. He was an alcoholic then and apparently kept it up. Has a successful business, civic minded, has a nice family. But he looked bloated and unhealthy. A liver scare put him in the hospital last year and it motivated him to quit or cut way back. He lost a bunch of weight. Now he still looks unhealthy. Emaciated everywhere but his stomach, which is still huge.

A board certified addiction doctor told me last night that calling someone an "addict" or "alcoholic" was the exact same thing as calling a black person the N word in the 60's.

I've drank a handle over 4-5 days at Mardi Gras or during an SEC Baseball series at the Box sharing with another friend.
But I am useless for days and can't drink for weeks after that without gagging.
How anyone can can do that over and over is mind boggling.

I once drink a handle in one night of Captain Morgan. Not 40% but I've never once drank Captain Morgan since then.

I messed around and drank a fifth of high proof in about two and a half hours the other night playing cards, I haven't had a drink since.

Thankfully I never have understood how you could drink that much every single day

Your tolerance gets to the point you need that much to feel the buzz/drunk.
I was up to a handle a week at one point. I could have killed a fifth on a day where I felt like really drinking.

I was drinking a bottle of vodka per day. Developed pancreatitis, kept drinking, became septic and spent five days on a ventilator and additional 1.5 weeks in the hospital and had hallucinations for three days. Wife was told I had less than a 10% chance of surviving. Believe it or not, I started drinking again. Ended up back in the hospital with pancreatitis. Finally admitted I was an alcoholic and got help. It nearly destroyed my family and should have killed me. Two options for alcoholics, die or get sober. If you think you have a problem, get help, you will not regret it.

Y'all would be shocked to learn how many alcoholics will go through 1.75 L handles of 40% alcohol every 2 days

Been there, done that, and by the grace of God escaped its grip. No way I'm starting down that road again. Coca-Cola or sweet tea with lemon for me these days, please.

Having a drink to relax and enjoy company is one thing. Having to drink to keep from getting jittery is something I have no desire to feel again, so none for me. Don't even want to consider another drink after squeaking through that episode of my life.

shite before I sobered up I was drinking 7-8 of these little 100ml Taaka bottles every day. Lasted about 2-2.5 years. I was sneaking these things everywhere. It got to the point I’d buy 5ths and refill these bottles.

5 x 750ml = 3500 ml; about 300 ml short of a gallon.

Welcome to the Land of Shrinkflation.

He probably has cirrhosis of the liver. My doctor told me that constantly drinking "hard" booze such as whiskey, vodka, or rum is really bad for the liver.

I know two personally in Baton Rouge who drank like that for over 2 yrs straight.
One is far away from here and sober. But only after a major spiral to rock bottom and multiple seizures.
The other is dead.

Were dead man's initials JL, like a recent AG turned Governor?

A friend of mine passed away a couple of years ago, he was killing a handle of Stoli every 2 days or so.

It was incredibly difficult to watch such an intelligent and capable person kill himself that way.

A fifth a day will kill you if you stop without medicine. Alcohol and heroin are the deadliest to quit cold turkey without medication.

I was in treatment with a guy. “Big John” we called him. Huge alcoholic Indian from Oklahoma. He refused medicine for a day or two and then he died. Only alcohol. No drugs.

My wife had 65% of her liver removed due to NON ALCOHOL RELATED liver tumors.

Within a few months, the liver had regenerated according to the surgeon.
I knew it would regrow, but shocked how fast it did.

As long as a person doesn't progress to full blown cirrhosis, I think liver will be OK.

I don’t see how people are able to function day to day drinking that much alcohol.
or even one day
I am physically unable to do that even if I wanted to
4 beers in one night and I’m drooling
a fifth of anything would put me face down on the toilet or in an ambulance

I really don’t get it
