I wouldn’t dismiss the title character in “American Psycho” either

FWIW Christian Bale supposedly channeled Tom Cruise being interviewed on television talk shows for the character's fake authenticity.

Honestly, Louis Bloom from Nightcrawler was the closest as well.

One of my favorite books. To me, he represented Evil personified.

Anton Chigurh is one of the more impulsive characters I can think of.

It's not a diagnosis. A psychopath or sociopath would be diagnosed with Antisocail Personality Disorder.

They’re too different things, right? Like for instance I think Bill Clinton is a sociopath and not a psychopath and Hillary is the other way around.

Psychopath is a more of a modern parlance term and not a scientific one.

ASPD is in that nasty cluster B (Antisocial, Borderline, Histrionic, and Narcissistic PDs). Psychopathy would definitely be in cluster B, if it ever got a real definition.

*ETA: sociopathy is the same as psychopathy, IIRC, regarding definition (and where it would be slotted in the DSM)

Mafioso Roy DeMeo is certainly fits that description. He was pure evil.
Even Sammy the Bull Gravano, who admitted to his part in 19 hits warned members of the Gambino Family and others about him.

He’s worse than that. Fauci is a full fledged psychopath and I think he meets all the criteria.

1) Behavior that conflicts with social norms.
2) Disregarding or violating the rights of others.
3) Inability to distinguish between right and wrong.
4) Difficulty with showing remorse or empathy.
5) Tendency to lie often.
6) Manipulating and hurting others.
7) Recurring problems with the law.
8) General disregard toward safety and responsibility.
9) Expressing anger and arrogance on a regular basis.

He’s all that to a T.

Psychiatrists, Psychologists and other so-called mental health "experts" don't know any more about what's going on inside someone's head than you or I. Sometimes, significantly less so.

Never heard of this, had to search what was this about. Saw it was listed as a great movie. I guess I'll have to check it out. Is it as good as they say it is?

I watched it a month or so ago for the first time.

It's definitely good.

You have a fundamental misunderstanding of what they do

If a psychologist/psychiatrist doesn't understand what is "going on inside their patient's head", it's b/c the patient is being deceptive/lying. While there are some ways they try to deduce deception, the vast majority of the field is based in self reporting by the patient.

After that, it's just grouping the characteristics the patient displays to terms

Friends argue with me to this day that her fate is ambiguous. Maybe he killed her, maybe he didn’t they say. What’s your proof they say?

I thought when he stepped out her front door, he looked down at his boots to see if they were bloodied. Maybe I’m mistaken. It’s been a long time sinceI I’ve watched the film.
That was my proof he killed her
