I remember Kirby Smith was for the "soft" kids who expected AC and their own bathroom. We were made fun of for living there instead of one of the cooler men's dorms.

The REAL men lived in stadium dorms which had no dividers between toilets in the hall bathrooms. you haven't lived until you've walked in on 3 people taking shits reading newspapers.

Some did. I lived in Beauregard in the early 90s, and it had window units.

That AC saved us when LSU decided winter was a good time to replace the insulation in the basement boiler room. First floor turned into an oven. You couldn’t walk on the floor with bare feet it was so hot. We had to run our window units just to cope with the heat, even though it was cold outside. The windows were locked shut. Showering was impossible because there was no cold water, only scolding hot. They finally cut the window locks after a couple of weeks to give us some relief.

Lived there first year it opened. 14th floor IIRC. Top floor. Elevator rarely worked. Building had a big crack down the middle top to bottom. Moved mid-semester to Graham.

or three people praying to the porcelain god late saturday night. Stupid freshman first time away from mommy and daddy can't moderate their drinking.

Yep, lived there '85-86 senior year. Then, just like now, probably the coolest-looking old school dorms around, with the oaks and huge courtyard. Only 4 rooms per landing, okay bathrooms to share.

With high ceilings, the ceiling fan and the shade trees and a room on the north side of a building, lack of A/C was only an issue for a short while-- the 1st month of classes and last 2 weeks (early May). Rest of the time it was pleasant with the windows open... in winter's cold when they turned on the steam to the radiators, those things KICKED out some heat.

pentagon had separate entrances, ancient thick doors, and walls. I loved doing a side kick on the doors. I could fell the door flex. I didn't know the sound carried through the court yard until the r a warned me about it, and about the pot in the closet.

They had a special dinner for graduating seniors. One of the matronly deans pushed her way to my table when I mentioned "the pentagon". The dorm had an "animal house" reputation. I was gracious because I thought she was checking if I was wild pot head. "We can't have wild pot head engineers going out in to the workforce representing LSU, now can we".

It was a decision I would later regret. Mostly due to location. Would have been nice to have been closer to the house.

I just noticed, no one has posted anything about living in the jock dorm which is next door to the pentagon. Those jocks never could read nor write. LOL

I was a jock but they put us in Kirby Smith since it was cheaper and we were just track guys. This paragraph serves as a refutation of your posit.
