I can't force food down their throat and they are refusing to do so. What can I do? They have spoken to hotline and therapist are not taking in any new patients at the moment. Any suggestions?

Try other therapists? Seriously, don’t stop calling until you find one who will take another patient.

If you can’t find one, I’m not sure what the process is but if you think they are a danger to themselves, call the cops. You don’t want to be in a situation where you didn’t and regret it.

.

Why wouldn’t you call a doctor or psychiatrist?

Somebody will see them. Don’t take no for an answer. My niece lost her dad last week or so and she started therapy today.

Call the coroner and get a CEC/OPC for depression and failure to thrive.

ETA it sounds weird but yes in LA the coroner is one of the people that can have people taken against their will and if the family isn't going to go an er and get a psych consult, a pretty reliably way to get it done. Otherwise call 911 when the ambulance gets there the crew can determine if the pt wishes to do harm to themselves via starvation and get orders to take them against their will

The Cops wont do anything except maybe take them to the hospital but the hospital cant force them to stay if they don't want to. Also the cops won't take them anyway unless they're a clear and present danger to society or to themselves.

Call the SAMHSA Hotline - 1-800-662-4357

They'll point you in the right direction.

If you think their health is in danger you should call an ambulance. Why would you call the police in this situation?

I have no idea to be honest. They are successful, currently employ not in any danger, have pretty much frick you money. Not on drugs but a smoker. Pretty much on paper there is nothing to be unhappy or depress about. Yet this shite is happening and the thing is, I don't live with said family member, they are in a different city but they felt the need to tell me they have yet to eaten and have been starving themselves.

Like I see that as a cry for help but I have no fricking idea what to do.

Seriously. Call the number I listed.

Here's a link to their website. It's exactly what you're looking for.

They can lock you up for that? If my life was a book that would be the title.

Get them to primary care doctor who will likely start an SSRI or SNRI and maybe a benzo until they can see someone in psychiatry.

I'm almost through the book Crazy that was written around 2009, I think.

It's pathetic and scary the laws that surround mental illness and how hard it is to 'force' help on someone that doesn't think they need it.

I have no advice for you other than stay close to them and call anyone and everyone until you have an answer that allows them to be safe.
