I spent 22 hours in Delta hell between Tuesday afternoon and yesterday afternoon. But they did give me $600 and paid for a hotel room.
Flying just sucks now days. Anything less than 12 hours I just drive now days. It used to be 7 hours. Yes, 80% of the time it is smooth. The other 20% makes you want to just get sucked into a jet engine.

To be fair, Savannah isn't exactly the biggest airport, I think they have 2 runways.
Number of runways is irrelevant
London Heathrow is busy AF and has 2 runways
San Diego has 1

Wasn’t there supposed to be a passenger bill of rights that was going to protect travelers from things like this? These situations are getting out of hand with staff shortages and there’s nothing a passenger can do except catch a charge.

my "drive instead of fly" time/distance had about tripled over the past 3 or so years

except t was an international flight from the Bahamas to Atlanta
Flights into the Caribbean from the US are typically on 737s/757s or smaller. They don't count in airline calculus. It's not a a 777 with 300 people on it, so the airlines don't care. Nobody is connecting through Nassau, but they are connecting in ORD, ATL, AMS, FRA, etc. Widebodies get priority scheduling and staffing, which is appropriate.

passenger bill of right
Due to weather. Circumvented. Force Majeure. Outside of the control of the airline.
Not that anything the feds do works out well, anyway.

Should have diverted to the southern border and drop the passengers off there.
They'd get a bunch of stuff free and no customs to worry about

think I'd find a way off of that plane. I'd probably catch a charge, but with the inevitable panic attack I would have a good case for temporary insanity.
Immediately thought of Charles Grodin in Midnight Run

I would be right beside you.
You are being held like a hostage. Open the door and let me off.

Maybe a few grown adults that have been drinking and eating cajun or mexican food for a few days need to start shitting in the aisle. Something will change. It may just be that they start bringing a couple 5 gallon buckets on the plane. Or 33 gallon trash cans. But something will change.

How often did this happen before COVID made every FA a queen on Earth? I'm serious. Americans were the worst. "From your Seattle based flight crew," means something entirely different than, "from your Frankfurt based flight crew."
I got diverted to Knoxville once on the way back to ATL, where the fuel guy was smoking as he was pumping gas into the MD-80. The pilot recognized the trip sucked, and authorized the FAs to give out free beer. He explained he wanted us seated, because he wanted to be able to turn and burn as soon as he got clearance to finish the flight to ATL.
True to form, we spend less than 40m on the ground, everyone drinking beer. He told the FAs to secure the carts, and he was "going to drive it like he stole it" in order to make the landing window in ATL. We rolled off the curtain/taxiway onto the runway without stopping and hit it. That's a Captain.

Yet I've never been in any airport where an entire terminal (5) has had all water shut down for hours. No shitters, no water, at the international terminal. Brilliant.

The tarmac’s are much hotter than 125 right now at 3:00 in the afternoon!

Nothing but horror stories over the past year about flying. It just makes me not want to travel anymore.
