Is it a girl?
Get her an LSU softball uniform. They are probably on sale.

You are a thousand miles away? A copy of your hometowns newspaper on the day of the kids birth and some digital photos of your area.

My first was born in 1991 and I thought to do that myself on the day of her birth and felt corny as hell doing it. Yet, its amazing what just random photos of everyday life thirty years from now will mean to the kid and parents.

I like to get new parents uber eats gift cards. Not having to cook a meal or two when exhausted is nice.
If you live in a smaller town, picking up lunch/cooking and dropping it off is a good option too.

Better yet, send a book as the card for the present and write a message inside.

For a baby gift if I like to send a kind of gift basket of baby meds. Parents don't tend to add them to the baby registry, but will need them.

Gripe water
Gas drops
Baby Tylenol
Saline drops
