Yeah, but still...

That's a long 9 years IMO. Longer than I could handle.

Or that the people with the required skills are that in demand.

It works both ways.

I take a week of summer vacation, a week in the fall, a week in the spring. And I take every other friday or monday off.

Not that hard.

I currently get 3 weeks vacation, and 1 sick day per month. I rarely ever use all of the sick days, even when staying home with sick kids occasionally. But my wife doesn't work so she's usually the one to stay home if they're sick.

After 5 years of work, I'll get a 4th week of vacation. Which will be nice, but if they offered me an extra 7% in compensation over the standard raise, in lieu of the 4th week off, I would jump all over it. I'm rarely sick, and sometimes it is a struggle to use all 3 weeks I currently have. I checked my balance a month or so back and realized I had 9 days left. I took two the week of Thanksgiving, taking 5 the week between Christmas and New Years, and still have to take 2 more this month or lose it. And if I did somehow use it all, I could just throw a sick day here or there if I really needed the time off for something.

7% more money, one week less vacation.

So only 6.5 weeks instead of 7.5.

I would say 7% isn't shite to lose 1 week of vacation but didn't realize you worked in France and got 2 months off already.

I'd still keep vacation unless you make less than 50k

Not really. It means someone else can do your job.

Absolutely no one here has any idea of how to do my job.

I was offered a promotion with the understanding I have to work both positions until a replacement can be hired and have to train my replacement to a competent level.

The other position has considerably less responsibility but supervises 30 people or so. I consider it less responsibility.

At my current company a new employee gets 144 hrs PTO. After 5 years, it's 204 hrs, after 10, it's 264 hrs. It's a great benefit, one that many of my fellow coworkers don't appreciate as they constantly are bitching about the company etc. I tell the stupid bitch with 20 yrs and 260 hrs to quit and go work somewhere else and get her 1 week vacation, AFTER she's been there a year. She usually shuts up.

If I had 7.5 weeks vacation, I'd take the money in a heartbeat.

But I don't, so I'm keeping my time off.
