Teachers don't get paid during their time off, though. They get paid for working 9 months a year. Sounds like this person has actual vacation time which would be paid time off.

Teachers have the option of a 12 month pay plan.
This is real vacation not including sick time.

What is your future earning potential with the company? Expenses can change overnight with unforeseen circumstances, i.e. pregnancy, significant other loses job, etc. Having 6.5 weeks is still well ahead of most and you can utilize the extra 7% to really start funding retirement or future costs. If for some reason, you never need the money you saved, you have some pretty good disposable income for 6.5 weeks.

Lol'ing at the 7.5 weeks of vacation. I'd tell them for several more percentage points you can knock off a couple more weeks of vacation.

Nope. Unless you don't use your time, and you can roll the whole 7% into your withholdings for retirement.

We get like 5 weeks.

well, one week is roughly 2% of your year. Thus getting a 7% bump in pay, but having to work an extra week is actually only a 5% bump in pay because the other 2% you were already getting in vacation. At that point, it's basically a sideways move unless you already make a ton of money. You just have to ask yourself if that additional week (over 13% of your vacation time) is worth the trade for a gain of 5% pay.

There is a sick bank type thing where employees can donate sick time to other employees. He donated like 6 weeks of sick time to his daughter in law for her maternity leave each time she had a baby. And he still had enough time banked up to retire like 6 months early.

yep ours is very similar (although i dont teach) Work for a state hospital in mississippi. Time off is insane. All the govt holidays, plus a ton of vacation and sick time.

I don't think I made it clear. I just meant they get a salary based on 9 months of work. Most districts pay their teachers out over 12 months but it is for 9 months of work, they just spread it out for them. Less and less districts even give a choice anymore, you just get paid over 12 months. But like I said, that doesn't change that their salary is based off of working 9 months.
