humans haven't been in this state of nature for like 10,000 years
Go live in North Korea, parts of Mexico, North Africa, parts of the middle east, and get to me.
As I said, our perception of the world has warped in this country.

democratic values and capitalism/free trade have fundamentally changed what being human is (for the better)
The Romans had almost the exact same logic two thousand years ago when their views controlled the domestic and foreign policies of the world. And I'm sure they had this same debate during the Pax Romana. We aren't any different now than we were then. Today we're just more complacent and in a peaceful era. Which is fantastic.
Call it Pax Americana if you want. But less than 100 years ago an entire race of people was a couple bad strategic decisions away from being annihilated off this planet. And we can all hope for a long lasting and wonderful peace in this world. I don't want to see any more war. But is history has proven anything to us, it's that when you are at your most peaceful, perfect, good place something will balance you out.

i still don't think this is anything close the majority I was speaking to
I know you just want to argue and bring up history and small groups as examples, but come on
I do agree that living in this country probably warps my view of the world...How couldnt it
But I still believe that the large part of the world still treats each other in a humane way

How long before the WYHI thread gets started?

As I said earlier, currently treating each other humanely does not equal being humane. A lion might come up to you and lick you on the cheek and purr as you pet him. Don't confuse him for a nice kitten. He's a killing machine. He just isn't currently switched on.

Genocide, crusades, holocaust, Spanish inquisition, and slavery are not small group outlier examples.

I saw this yesterday and I guess my reaction is, yea, it's completely fricked that he murdered this chick and posted it on the Internet but, in thinking about it, it's no more fricked than a regular murder that isn't posted on the Internet.
Is it the audacity to post pictures and a confession on an anonymous forum that makes this case any different than ones we see on our regularly scheduled news reels?

By your logic here everyone walking around is a murderer that just needs the right trigger. Sorry but that's false.

Perhaps not every single person, but the majority? Absolutely.

Humans are humane as long as it suits them. Once you shatter that thin veneer of humanity... Once the gears grind to a halt and the machine falls to chaos... Madmen prosper and the weak become fodder.

When the world goes to shite you're either a hunter or you're hunted.

Some people have an inability to accept or process harsh realities of existence.

Really amazing for people who have lived through Katrina up close and personal.

Yikes. This makes the dude who posted the pictures of his dead wife on facebook look like child's play. Some sick fricks in this world.

I don't browse /b/ that often anymore but I did catch all the aftermath threads shortly after the original got whacked yesterday. This was before the news stories broke and everyone thought it was an elaborate troll.
It's disgusting, but like 12 people have died in some manner on 4chan. Part of the reason I stopped browsing there, I just can't handle how fricked up it gets.
