I recently went into my gastro for a yearly checkup. Dude tried to give me a pitch on doing a blood test for the state that checked for Hep C, HIV, and something else trashy.
I knew I didn't have these conditions because I'm not a whore or alcoholic so I declined but man he pressed hard. I guess the state gives him a kickback for every blood test.

You may consider changing the thread title. This is not a vaccine. It does not work via an immune response. It is a preventative medication, that is long lasting. From the prescribing information.

Highly likely this was part of a way for the state to see what the incidence/prevalence of these are in the "normal" population. Since GI docs see lots of healthy people for screenings (colonoscopy) it stands to reason that finding healthy volunteers at a GI doc is a good place. If they go looking at places where the "trashy" people are, then the results of the study will be in accurate as they will suffer from what is known as "selection bias".
They probably pressed you hard because they assumed you were a "healthy normal" person and the probability of you having those viruses is low and therefore you would have been an ideal candidate for a screening blood test. The fact that the data would be important for public health information is possibly why he pushed, as those viruses also increase the risk of liver disease, so useful information to know for planning purposes.
