SIAP, didn't see when I checked.

This is the best video I've seen of it so far. I judged the state competition at the cajundome this past week/end, when this happened Saturday. Between lifters on my platform, I saw this on the screen (8 total platforms, I was a ways away).

Yes, he lifted in a suit (which looked fairly loose). Yes, he's big. No, he's not particularly tall. Yes, it can be hard to tell depth on big boys.

Also yes he got on down there, 845 moved smooth like BUTTER, and it's NINE HUNDRED POUNDS.

I also judged a kid on my platform who weighed about 181 and squatted 600 RAW (no suit or wraps). It was crazy out there.

No. Probably 5'10" to 6'. I'm about 5'3" in that weight class squatting only 500. Those kids were freaks.

Is that suit more for support to help avoid injury in the event he collapses, or is it to help lift? I understand the support will often help with the lift, just asking what the designed purpose of the suit is.

Either way, impressive as hell for anyone, let alone a HS kid.

If his knees gave out, those spotters would be in for a rude awakening.

Really great to see Bernie Sanders coming out to a high school powerlifting competition.

I'd be paralyzed for life if I put that on my shoulders. Spine would snap. Wonder what he can do at 25.

This may be unpopular, but I don’t think squatting that much is healthy.

I was an average to below average power lifter in high school many, many years ago. These events are so much fun to be involved it. It's really a great sport. Even if you have no chance to place you be a better at just about every other sport due to power lifting.

I still remember a teammate of mine breaking the state squat record for his weight class. I'm sure it's been broken many times since then.

I also judged power lifting and Olympic lifting while in college. Maybe I'll get back into judging once I get my kids out of high school. I can smell the chalk.
