quote:

White sharks were busy off the Massachusetts coast on Saturday morning, closing beaches in Nantucket and gathering off Cape Cod. Swimmers were ordered out of the water at Ladies, Miacomet and Cisco beaches on Nantucket for two hours after a shark was spotted, the island's harbormaster said. The Sharktivity app, which tracks the fish, didn't immediately note a sighting in the area, but it did show a shark sighting around the same time about 75 yards off the shore of Nauset Beach. And a buoy south of Nauset Beach, off Chatham's North Beach Island, detected nine separate white sharks in the area Saturday alone. It uses technology to note when sharks that have been previously tagged swim nearby -- Saturday's visitors includes sharks called Dylan, Fruit Loops, Warren Squidward, according to the Sharktivity app.

Why is this a surprise and worthy of national news? The ocean is where we keep the fricking sharks! It is the arrangement we have had for a billion years or so.

This has strong “Why complain about 120F heat in the middle of July in Louisiana?” energy.

It would really suck to be killed by a shark and you are forever associated by being killed by "Fruit Loops"

Why close the beaches? Those sharkos sound perfectly harmless.

No, it is "Don't be surprised when you find a shark in the ocean energy."

It is like me wandering into your kitchen and being shocked to see your wife there making a ham sammich.

Because some jackass will go out surfing or swimming or taking a piss, get his leg chomped off and then sue the city because all they did was post a warning, not close the beaches.

There’s probably more than 9 sharks in the water over there at any given point in time. You just don’t see them most of the time. Shark bites really are very rare.

Because people are idiots. And they want to be able to say "you have a better chance of dying from a coconut falling on your head than getting killed by a shark... based on the numbers"
