I posted this last year I believe. Its one of the items the government used in the trial to show the human aspect of the attacks. The ending is very hard to listen to but every time I do it brings me back to that day and I’m angry all over again. Attacking civilians is the biggest bitch move anyone can do.

It’s one of the most disturbing audio recordings in existence. It should tear your heart up. These are the type of things that every American needs to hear or see so that we truly never forget that day.

That's got to be one of the worst feelings being a dispatcher in situations like that. I can't even imagine being essentially powerless but trying to console and reassure those on the other end of the line even when you know they won't be saved.
ETA: Be sure to also keep the responders in your thoughts and prayers. I know a few PD and FD guys who are now contracting various forms of cancer because they all responded with no respiratory protection. 18 years later the repercussions are still prominent.

Were there ever any stories done on the 911 operators from that day? I can't imagine being the operator on that call.

I do recall dropping these big arse bombs on Japan quite some time ago. Sort of killed a lot of innocent civilians.

This should have been our response

well, there was thing called Pearl Harbor, and the japs considered every "citizen" as a potential combatant and were arming them with sticks as a last gap defensive measure for the imminent mainland invasion

I can't listen to that stuff. I listened to one once, I'll never forget the guy's name - Kevin Cosgrove. It was haunting and unforgettable.
If you take a minute to think about it, those people were doing exactly what we all do. They got up, got ready for work, stopped off for coffee, dropped their kids off to school or daycare, chatted to some co-workers about last weekend's games, fired off e-mails/answered calls, were heading to meetings, and then BAM...in one split second, everything changed.
It shows us that we should always live in the moment, take everything day by day, not get too worked up over the small stuff, and to love our families and each other greatly.

That call is always tough to listen to... and very haunting.
Can't imagine what it felt like to be at the other end of that line.

Went to Ground Zero for the first time earlier this summer (1st trip to NYC in over 20 years).
It was troubling to see the ease and carelessness of the people that were there. It was just another "stop." Another meaningless historical landmark like the countless others they give little to no notice to as they travel down a highway or through a national park.
No doubt, somewhere in those people was a lone person or small group of people, quietly reflecting the on horror of that day and the spouse, parent, child that was lost.
Islam was, and is, a pestilence. There is no accommodation or entreaty that will change that, or its final goal - complete subjugation of the "infidels."
frick Islam.

Agree with this... the fricking Chinese tourists were smiling and taking selfies with their stupid selfie sticks the last time I was there

In the 9/11 museum/memorial there is (or at least was when I visited) an exhibit that has a diagram of the towers with lights next to various floors. It plays phone message recordings from various people in the towers and shows you where they were in the tower when they made the call. It is absolutely heartbreaking and I had to walk away for fear of becoming a sobbing mess. It breaks your heart even more when you listen to it as a parent

You realize how many Americans would have died if we had to invade Japan? They started the war and the best way to save more American lives was to do that. Their civilians would have also fought to the death so in reality we prob saved more of them that way.

Yeah. every Japanese citizen wanted to go to war, just like every German citizen wanted to go to war and loved Hitler.
I'm not saying I have a problem with dropping those bombs. I understand why we did it, and it needed to be done, but don't act like we didn't kill a shite load of innocent people in doing so.

This. But you have many now who don't want to remember for any reason at all, and that too is sad.
