Wiring on pump was backwards, swapped rotation.

Dumbass reporters...

If they hadn't put that in the article, everyone in this thread would be screaming asking why they hadn't closed the pool yet.

What size pump is needed for that??

There is a reason hot tubs have two drains. If a kid thinks it’s funny to sit on one it can’t trap them because the second drain takes the load. But to pull a body into a 10” pipe??

Of course that’s a commercial pool.

Lazy rivers use 12” plus pipes to supply the water and current to the pool. Those motors are 3 phase so swap any two wires and they run in the opposite direction.

Yes…electrician or plumber fricked up.

On a centrifugal, you would only run at about 70% flow rate running backwards.

Crazy to think nobody noticed the lazy river flowing backwards, and slower, with the suction as the discharge and vice versa.

Or it could have been just piped backwards.

Regardless, stupid mistake, and cost a little girl her life.

Every time I ride an elevator I have a sense of dread also. None of these devices are getting younger and the skill level in the trades is not going up.

Just surprising there's no check valve on the discharge, no one checked rotation, and the point of discharge had no grill/ grating to prevent people from sticking things in there including themselves.

Guessing from a quick maps search that it's the one on 290. It looks like there's a pool and lazy river. Still doesn't make a lot of sense to me either.

That’s the one I was thinking. It’s also says the pool has a water wall.

This is making little sense except that any opening that large should be covered with a grate. When you look at recent reviews on TripAdvisor this looks like a run down and poorly run hotel on its way to being an extended stay hotel.

Property looks like it was recently a Crowne Plaza within a year. Probably another brand before that.

As to the ignorant talking about the Hilton family being sued, Hilton will be on the lawsuit and write a small, to them, check to get the nuisance to go away. They are neither the owner nor the operator of the hotel. And there are specifically worded agreements as to what the operator and owner are responsible for providing.

After Crowne Plaza, it was called The Grand Tuscany Hotel for a few years. They use to host pool parties for a certain clientele that isn't known for swimming. Very gaudy, went and voted there last fall and it was awful.

Very sad set of events.

with a pipe big enough for somebody to get pulled into.

My guess is she was suctioned onto it, couldn't break free, drowned and then the pipe "ate" her.

Well, that sucks arse.
She just wanted to swim because she probably didn’t get to often.

I hope prayers help comfort this family although I don’t see how.

What kinda pipe would be that big in a pool?

I would think that there would be multiple, smaller diameter inlets thought out the pool.

I pipe that big sounds more like a sewage treatment system.

Furthermore, where were the parents?

Seems like a lot of pent up hate for the Hilton family. Did something unseemly happen to you at a Hilton in your past?

Ever read their reviews on the travel sites like trip advisor? Lots of Hilton hotels have 2 and 3 stars out of 5 . In the Hospitality industry that is a failing grade.

It's more I want Hilton to pay for it... because do you think Paris Hilton is going to give any shite whatsoever about this if they aren't required to pay a dime? Not at all, she'll continue on with her constant vacations, never working, etc.
