The hotel is responsible for you not watching your small kids swim?

WTF is that pipe?

quote:

According to police spokesman John Cannon, the Houston Fire Department inspected four pipes in the pool, each roughly a foot wide, but could not find anything.

I'm not sure the parents being there would have helped. By the time they would have realized her she was 10'+ in the pipe with the pump still going. Sad, but I think it was to their mental well-being that they didn't witness it.

Or you could just say, "hey, lets stay away from those pipes."

Ultimately this will be on the hotel because there is no way that pool should've been open with that kind of shite going on .

That’s obviously a good idea, but you should also be extra vigilant with ANY new unfamiliar public pool .. if it can happen there, it can happen at almost any pool .

There was a story back in 2007 where a poor innocent little 6 yr old girl happened to sit on a pipe in a pool that was malfunctioning similarly to the one in the OP.. it literally sucked her intestines out of her little body and she had like 17 surgeries and suffered for months before dying.. i would look up the story to link for yall, but i wont b/c it’s too disturbing .

This is beyond tragic, but I can't help but wonder where in the hell the girl's parents were?

When my kid was 8, either the wife or I was closely monitoring her when she was near any water.

Ok, maybe the lazy river has some sort of pumps set up to push the water to create the flow and possibly someone turned the valve on backwash which would explain why it was sucking and not pushing the water.

That’s beyond scary if all it took was a $10/hour maintenance guy to turn a knob the wrong way.

Some lawyer and the parents are about to take Hilton to the cleaners.

Reminds me of one of John Edwards' largest jury verdicts. A 5 year old girl was in a kiddie pool and got pulled down onto the drain and it literally sucked her small and large intestines out of her body. IIRC the verdict was just north of $30 million.

Forgot to mention she lived and had to spend most of her days being fed intravenously.

Sue them for every penny they have. If my daughter, no way they're not settling for less than $100 Mil. Not even for the money, but to make the Hilton family pay and hurt for it.

From descriptions, I bet this is going to be related to the lazy river more so than the pool. Those rivers require a good amount of water flow to circulate, and thus large pipes and pretty significant pressures going on.

And they use centrifugal pumps, not positive displacement type, so you can’t just spin it backward and have it pump the other way (maybe axial flow?). There was probably some recent maintenance and it got plumbed incorrectly or wired backwards in the case of axial flow pump.

Looks like daddy will have to grab a beer and test out all these rivers before my boys go in them. Both of those little string beans would fit into a 8” pipe.

Blaming the parents for an 8 year old going around a lazy river and then disappearing is crazy. They could have been on the deck and then looked up and the child was gone. Hence the missing child report and video investigation.

So I know there was one speculation last night from somebody that knows quite a bit and everything that that the pump was wired wrong

Damn, read that 3 times before I could figure out what the hell this was supposed to say.

Makes me happy Hilton family net worth is about to go down $100 mil from this. Who knows if their insurance will cover this as it is so dumb to have a pipe that large intaking. Much like insurance won't cover some auto or home things that are blatant negligence by the owner, Paris and Co. may have to fork up $100 mil of thier own money. And that makes me happy.

This is what is wrong with people, and with America, in 2024 .

That’s at least the 2nd time someone has said that in the first two pages.. the fact that your mind would even go there- as if that would in any way comfort the family or bring back their kid- is sick.. even if it’s true, it’s still fricked up for people to jump to that .

I'm saying this more out of I want the Hilton family and hotel chain to pay for what they did and hurt somehow, I'm not saying money is going to make the mom and dad feel better and that this money is the answer for a loss of family. It's more I want Hilton to pay for it... because do you think Paris Hilton is going to give any shite whatsoever about this if they aren't required to pay a dime? Not at all, she'll continue on with her constant vacations, never working, etc. Only thing that will wake them up and make them feel wrong about this is if you hit their wallets for 9 figures. I'd be just as satisfied if it all went to charity. Just want them to pay. Specifically an ungrateful girl who has everything handed to her and never works, no stress whatsoever. Want her to feel what stress is.
