This is just awful news. The hotel is owned by Hilton.

HOUSTON (KTRK) – On Saturday, an 8-year-old girl drowned after she was sucked into a pipe while she was swimming in a hotel pool. It happened at the DoubleTree Hotel on the city’s northwest side. The girl was initially reported missing, but after a search crew reviewed security footage, they found she went underwater and did not resurface. That’s when they drained the pool and sent a camera almost 20 feet into one of the pool’s pipes. “(It) appears right now the pump was put in there, and it was probably malfunctioning because of the open pipe that she ended up in was supposed to be pushing water out,” said Tim Miller, founder of Texas EquuSearch. “And right beside that pipe, there was another pipe that actually had a big plastic filter like screen on the front that’s supposed to be sucking water in. So I know there was one speculation last night from somebody that knows quite a bit and everything that that the pump was wired wrong. So it was sucking instead of pushing.” The search crew said it took about 13 hours to recover the girl’s body. An investigation is underway. The pool is temporarily closed.

I would be murdering someone with my bare hands if that was my daughter.

Frick me...now I'm about to go watch some puppy videos. I cannot fathom what the parents are going through. Nor can I fathom why a pipe large enough to fit a human is on a pool where something like this is even plausible.

What kinda pipe would be that big in a pool?

That doesn’t make sense…water going in the pool is through jets and the intake is covered. I’ve never seen a pool that pushes water in with a pipe big enough for somebody to get pulled into.
Plus, a Doubletree is nice but they don’t have huge pools.
It’s more likely it was the intake and the cover was missing. That’s a big problem for Doubletree

That family is going to own half the Hilton wealth.

A few things are puzzling with this story. Two pipes big enough to suck up an 8yr old is really odd. And where were the parents?

I stayed at that hotel 13 years ago. Coulda been me

So many questions here. I cannot comprehend how this is possible.

So you’d let your 8 y/o swim alone at a hotel?

Guessing from a quick maps search that it's the one on 290. It looks like there's a pool and lazy river. Still doesn't make a lot of sense to me either.

I'm sure they have good insurance. The hotel is owned by Hilton corp.

I'm not sure the parents being there would have helped. By the time they would have realized her she was 10'+ in the pipe with the pump still going. Sad, but I think it was to their mental well-being that they didn't witness it.

Holy shite wtf! They had a dredge style sump pump in a fricking pool that they allowed active swimming in?!! How tf do they even allow pipes the size that could inhale even a cat to be in a public pool that’s absolutely insane doesn’t matter if it was wire wrong the pool should have been shut down if there was an exterior pump installed like that

Maybe the lazy river has some large pipes pushing the flow?
Sounds more like a lazy whirlpool.

This makes no sense..........there has got to be more to the truth......how does an 8 year old child get sucked into pool drain?
