Sounds they may need a payroll fraud task force.

I've had interaction with this guy

quote:

Police Sgt. Dominic Distefano worked 1,695 overtime hours in 2012 for a total of $76,459 in additional pay over his $58,764 salary. The next year, he worked 1,613 overtime hours for $73,725. This year, he's up to about 1,100 hours so far.

And he was a major dick.. Sullied much of the respect I once had for police officers

Wasn't this information released a few months ago?

Well, since his link in the OP is dated September 24, 2014, I'd say yes, you're correct.

If you really want to complain, TD is not the place to get something changed.

Is off duty work considered OT? I know the highway construction companies hire them for security and to serve as a safety buffer with their lights when working on the roads at night. When I interned with a highway company we paid the police force who in turn paid the officers. If that's the case then OP might be misleading as tax dollars aren't paying for that.

ETA: I geneally have a bad taste for cops, but we had one who hustled ever extra detail he could and seemed to always be the one they sent. Good dude trying to make some extra money to pay his daughters tuition at Tulane. He always ended up helping us work instead of just sleeping in his car.

Some departments changed their policy on over time.
The insurance liability companies complained that working that much overtime on a constant basis could increase accidents or reduce officers ability to make good decisions.

Some departments also puts the cost of dept assets used in the cost of working extra duty in the hourly rate charged to a private business. This would include avg cost of unit including fuel which city pays for, liability insurance, and administrative cost.

In Baton Rouge as long as the police union controls this city the citizens will eat these cost incurred while an officer works overtime.

You know that the dwi ot is paid for by grants, so the citizens aren't eating anything other than taxes they already pay to the feds. The feds give out the grants.

Regardless of who is paying for the OT, that's too many hours of work for someone who has to make decisions with a gun.
