The crime has not really affected us in our neighborhood so we’re not looking to move. The only way we would leave is if there was an uptick of home invasions in my area. There’s about a dozen restaurants/bars and 2 grocery stores I can walk to from my house, never have i felt threatened walking home from dinner at nigh
Your bubble is ok but venture out of it and its fair game of whatever might happen to you and your family.
I work in nola pretty much every day and its sad seeing the state of the city when you just drive around the common areas

BTW, where's that Sao guy who was previously trying to argue these numbers were "insignificant."

Alternatively, everyone who isn't a liberal or criminal could move INTO Orleans Parish in an attempt to save the State's largest and most important city?
Life's too short for that. The things that will turn around orleans (if it ever gets turned around) will take several consecutive mayors/city councils making every right move before seeing real progress. It will take decades of work to put nola where it needs to be.
I fear NOLA has achieved escape velocity and there no longer exists the will or ability to make the changes necessary.

In which neighborhood do you live?
Posted on 1/18/22 at 10:53 am to JohnnyKilroy
we won't know if we don't try.
Just imagine the possibilities with a massive influx of right wing voters flooding New Orleans, voting out most of the politicians, outnumbering the moochers, and going super tough on crime and pro business.
The State would be changed massively for the better.
Come on over.

The average person walking around nola has no care or respect for their fellow man or the betterment of the city.
It also doesnt help that about 50% of black adult males dont work. With 60% of the population being black, thats a scary number
the city is a lost cause

Nola is a shithole. Can’t wait to get out. Making moves

The only way to salvage that place is to let it burn to ashes then rebuild.
You mean like after Katrina?
That's exactly what happened at it was AWESOME for about 10 years.
As soon as they got rid of Sid Torres trash contract, it's been downhill ever since.

I'm being facetious. None of that would ever happen.

No thanks.

That's an interesting benchmark for when things really started going haywire, but, hey, I guess it makes as much sense as any I could come up with.

Exactly but the majority of voters in this city thinks that by simply not arresting the criminals doing these things, or taking it easy on them and sending them to juvie for a few years the problems will instantly be fixed.

Ain't gonna happen. Whole state is incredibly unfriendly to non-O&G business and the public education and infrastructure in nola is so terrible that outside companies have no interest in coming here.
That's not even mentioning the fact that we have the potential to get wiped out by hurricanes any given year.
The city is broke as a joke. I'm all for cracking down on crime, but where is nola getting the money to hire 400 new officers at competitive salaries plus raises for all the existing cops?
And let's be honest. The corruption wouldn't stop if you kicked out every single dem and installed a republican. This state is chock full of corrupt arse republicans and nola would be no different.
Nola is at the point where virtually every aspect of its government has major flaws that will take decades of dedicated work to fix.

A lot of people are just like "Leave" and I do empathize with my family where my family members have friends, other family, and businesses, it isn't so easy to just leave.
Of course, I had a family member tell me yesterday essentially "That Florida governor has no control over covid!"
And I was like, is Louisiana's governor having no control over crime any better?
When you live in other places and come back, it really puts into perspective what craphole New Orleans is. Whether it be the litter, crumbling infrastructure, or prevailing sense that criminals are around and could strike at any moment.

It’s crazy how fast the City has rotted since the 2015 or so peak of post-Katrina renaissance. LaToya has done work.

Mitch's grandstanding tactics toward the end of his term to get himself national exposure sort of set it all in motion.
I know people think it's sort of a tired cliche to point to the statue shite, but the fact of the matter it was more an outward symptom of the sort of "focus" that fricker had in his last couple of years as mayor, versus actually paying attention to anything that really mattered.
