It's been just over two weeks since the start of the new year, but already the NOPD is investigating dozens of carjackings. Since January 1, 2022, NOPD confirms there have been 53 carjackings, attempted carjackings, and armed robberies involving car thefts.

quote:

"If you can't even slow down at a stop sign because you're afraid somebody is going to jump out and take your car from you, that's a problem," said the victim.

WTH is going on in New Orleans?

Oh and get this:

quote:

"I did not know this - crime victims have to pay to have their cars returned to them because they've been towed and stored in a tow lot. I've already had to replace my phone, so being a crime victim is going to cost me close to $1,000 because these people decided to steal my car," he said

That's also bullshite stat padding. A "carjacking" involving a gun is an armed robbery, which carries a much harsher sentence. This is the reason NOPD bragged of an armed robbery reduction last year.

53 people survived long enough to make it to an interstate exit?

Yeah. The impound charges daily storage. Even if your car is in the lot for weeks first.
Is a racket. Tow yard operators and tow truck drivers are scum generally.

And any carjackers that are caught should have to pay a five dollar fine and receive a big ‘shame on you’ from the judge.

It’s out of control…

But I couldn’t help but chuckle when ol’ boy took off. Did he think he was going to win that foot race?

At that rate, you would think it's gotta be an organized crime. I wonder how many of the 53 are unsolved cases. It would be interesting to find out if any one they caught is coming from out of town/out of state.
