Exactly. People who think with gorilla logic of “well, this doesn’t affect me so I shouldn’t worry”. Who doesn’t know anyone over 60? And even if you don’t, look around you. You got to be obtuse to think this doesn’t affect you.

It's a complete media driven hysteria.
Everyone screaming about the numbers. Who gives a shite.
85 percent of the numbers will have a mild cold.
10 percent will have basically flu. Not fun but not deadly.
The rest which will skew to the older with Co morbities will need more serious medical intervention. Drugs, possibly hospitalization. 9.5% of those will recover.
.5% will die. This will skew even older and be terrible when it gets inside nursing homes.
I'm not saying it's a nothingburger but the hysteria is disproportionate on a massive scale.

Wrong, clowns that don't know how to objectively look at ALL the data are making assumptions. You idiots that imagine there's going to be a massive increase in confirmed cases don't seem to understand that there is an incredible bottleneck in the few labs able to conduct the tests. They can pump out millions of test kits but when they can only process 1000/day (for the entire US) then you shouldn't expect geometric expansion in the numbers. That's why they are not simply allowing anyone to get tested, only those referred by a provider. At least the smarter hospitals and clinics are taking that approach.

No one hates their parents dumbass.
We make sure they are well supplied and tell them to stay in for a few weeks as best they can.
There is no reason for all of this upheaval. No good reason.
And many experts in medicine agree in spite of what you see on TV.
Wash your hands, if you're sick stay home. That would be plenty enough to manage this until it burns out.

Such stringent testing early on and only a select few people were allowed to be tested. Everyone else went about daily business. This is what ramped up the numbers. Now they are finally testing a few people around 200-250.

But that’s IF it doubles every single day. If it does, then the numbers truly are terrifying. I think, on second thought, it may double every few days instead of every day.

You are only talking about one side of the effects, though. What we have done, to protect the elderly and infirm from a virus which they could have isolated themsevles from in most cases, affects everyone.
And if this is our response to every new sickness that has similar effects, our entire way of life will be altered.
"We can extend the lives of some unknown number of old people if we all just cancel life for a month" is crazy reasoning. We could do it literally every year for flu season.

This thing took us by surprise, and really highlighted were unprepared logistically or psychologically to deal with this as a society, so I understand the extreme measures in this case.
But long term I couldn’t agree more. We’ve got to learn from this so when these things come around we don’t shut down society
