Is it the kids or the moms using their kids to get their Adderall scrip filled?

Between ADHD kids, adult Zoomers, and soccer moms, it seems like half the population is on Adderall.

And you really think all of them actually have problems? Or are the signs and symptoms they use to diagnose a kid so vague and all encompassing that pretty much any hypochondriac mom hopped up on anti depressants can take their kid to a doctor and come out with some excuse for why they’re acting up when in reality they’re just being a kid?

I'm not sure how things are now, but 15 years ago or so when my oldest son was having issues, it took all sorts of shite to get a "diagnosis" / help. damn sure wasn't as simple as just asking.

he's always been a very avid reader. reads all the damn time and describe the book to you with no problems. even years after reading it.
he can also give you his opinion on the subject matter or even suggestions he would have done differently in the story, etc.

fricker can NOT take a test on it to save his life.

never was diagnosed with anything. never was put on medication.
but was given some extra time on tests.

Every kid has trouble concentrating and focusing because screens have been pushed in their faces since childhood. So every kid has an ADD/ADHD diagnosis.

Schools are to blame with the screens too. I had to ask my kid if they ever use pencil & paper anymore.

Screens are destroying attention spans.

My 11 yo son has dyslexia and dysgraphia. His IQ is 139. Should he be able to expand his knowledge and abilities? Or should he struggle because his numbers and letters jumble?
He does extra work to enable his ability to learn through the dysgraphia and dyslexia, we pay for that.

Yup, it’s true. Both my daughters, and both my nephew’s have IEP’s just bc they are good kids, try hard in school, and are in gifted, and DE, AP classes.

You mean you wouldn't do anything for your child? Such a bad parent.

Absolute understatement since the evolution of the iPad and tablets!

It’s about like football these days—if you ain’t cheating you ain’t trying.

I find it most ridiculous in things like graduate or professional school. Med and law students should not be getting additional time except for things like broken hands etc.

Agree. Something is very wrong and it is being normalized.

The ones that can make certain test scores, and keep up their grades! Gifted, AP, and DE aren’t considered “regular classes”, just like those that have learning problems. All lumped under Special Education (SPED). The school have to hire specialized teachers for, and have their own curriculum for. At least that’s how it is at my daughters school

Doubt it, nothing against your son but that would put him in the top 2% of the population

I see so many new parents justifying the screens because their kids are watching “educational” programming or using educational apps. All of those things have constant changing screens and moving objects….destroying attention spans. Amongst many other things.

Extra 30-60 minutes for the ACT does wonders for a kid’s score. That extra time is worth 2-3 points and that can mean 1000s in scholarship money. Most kids that had over a 32 on the ACT had extra time at my son’s school.

Are there people who coach their kids & game the system? Probably so. After years of shitty grades & teachers insisting my daughter had adhd we did a bunch of testing, which led to dyslexia & math dyslexia diagnosis. I really don't know if a coached kid can fake those tests but maybe so.
The adhd from the teachers was 100% bullshite & seems to be a popular label. Turns out she was in a constant panic state because she couldnt keep up with her friends and it looked like adhd. So we do a lot of work with her dealing with anxiety & alot of reading with her. No meds at all.
Have the accommodations helped? I really can't say one way or another. She still struggles academically but dealing with the anxiety issues have turned her into a great kid & very happy.
Parents just need to meet their kids where they are & understand not every kid is going to be a doctor, lawyer, engineer type. When I ask my daughter what is she gonna do with her life she always answers the same, "I want to be a great wife and a great mom".

Now you see why young Americans are falling way behind on the global market.

But they'll whine and complain about not being able to get a decent job and boomers ruined everything.

This is a thing? Is there a way to research if your doctor or lawyer needed special accommodations? What about your airline pilot?
