I’ve got the Nissan Titan XD 5.0 turbo Cummins diesel. It’ll tow slightly over 11K.
It’s a darn shame they’ve discontinued first the diesel option and now I hear in 2024 they’re discontinuing the Titan truck entirely.

That’s too bad.
I bought a Titan when they first started hitting the lot in Nov 2004.
It was a crazy powerfully truck, but it was hard on gas.
Nissan did manage to make them ugly though.

Back on the trucks…I’m wanting to get something with around double my needed towing capacity, but it’s hard to find in a “refined” crew cab model.

Towing capacity is more a function of braking capacity rather than number of cylinders or horsepower. Each state has its own laws and specifications, but your home state allowance is supposed to be good in other states via reciprocity.
This topic gets worn out by motor home owners that tow vehicles.
The final authority is the tort legal system, that will have the lawyers sniffing for big bucks if you have a collision due to inadaquate stoping capability.

Is 5500 lbs loaded or unloaded? Just something to consider. I am honestly not up to date on new truck specifications but something I would definitely consider is gear ratio if it’s mainly gonna be for towing.

And transmissions. That’s a weak point on a lot of trucks when towing.
I went through a couple of transmissions on my 01 Dodge 1500. When I replaced it I got a Duramax with an Allison transmission and never looked back. I really didn’t need a 3/4 ton truck, but hauling boats and tractors around, I was looking for something dependable.

I have scorched a few brake drums/rotors by having an excess weight and not enough stopping power. Each has been due to long runs down steep mountain roads. Flatlanders have a smaller problem

That's a lot of words. Get a mid teens tuned and deleted 6.7 f250/350 for $35k and call it a day. That thing will go to 500k miles easily.

That’s not the Ecoboost. That’s the reg 6. The 3.5 Ecoboost can get up to 13k properly equipped, & normally around 11k. The 2.7 Ecoboost gets 9k. Dodge is legit too. That’s my only experiences with that size boat & no issues pulling them with the Ram or the F150, but the F150 didn’t downshift near as much. Torque coming from the turbo I guess.
Best thing to do is take truck home with you, hook your boat up to it, & see which one you like.

Diesel is your answer for towing. Ft-lbs of torque is twice the amount of gasoline engines. 5,500 lbs is really not much, even for a gas burner.

A local dealer has a 2014 Ram 2500 Cummins with just under 70k miles for $54k iirc.
