Hiring them doesn't get some city official's buddy paid.

Uh-oh. I hope this interim person wasn't the worst catch basin cleaner in the history of Oxford, MS.

What are you talking about? The city desperately needs one guy to dig a hole while 4 other guys stand around and watches him. They're too busy for catch basin cleaning.

frick that. Mitch had 8 years to take care of this shite. Will the citizens receive some of their tax money back, since they're being asked to do the city's job for them?
Nah no no no no no no
All you trashy mother frickers who leave beads or throw beads or have anything to do with trashy arse Mardi Gras need to remember that this year when you leave the place looking like a bomb went off and street sweepers come by tossing all that shite into the storm drains.
Where’d y’all think it was going? lol

I bet its the total weight of all the shite that was pumped out. The bulk of it probably being sand, pebbles, dirt. Those are heavy.
According to the article, that was just the beads:
"Though the total amount of Mardi Gras beads extricated wasn’t clear, the 93,000 pounds cited referred only to the haul taken from catch basins along the popular parade route on St. Charles Avenue from Poydras Street to Lee Circle, Galloway said."
I bet Endymion alone drops a ton down the drain each year - plenty aren't picked up in that barricaded stretch.

Have you seen this floats before they start throwing? You're climbing over bag after bag. Absolutely packed. And it sounds like they haven't cleaned them regularly. Sounds right.

Some of these catch basins haven’t been cleaned in 30 years

That's absurd. No wonder there's so much.

Not surprising.
Another item on the long list of our city's gov't deficiencies.
There was a busted pipe under my sister's street for 3 fricking weeks before someone went out there to fix it. It was even before the freeze. There was a river running down the street for 3 weeks, and she finally called a Nola.com reporter to at least put pressure on them.
All this and our arrogant POS mayor refuses to go to a meeting with the POTUS about infrastructure funding all because he's a meanie.
frick Mitch. I truly despise that man.

“Shithole” isn’t a vile enough name for that city.

Is there any way to find out who the President of the Sewage and Water Board is? Is that public knowledge?
Why hasn't mitch publicly addressed the President of the Sewage and Water Board?

I agree. That's an absurd amount that doesn't seem like it would fit in 5 blocks of catch basins. I'm seeing 6 dozen beads weighs roughly 2 pounds. So 6000 dozen per ton. 276,000 dozen beads in these 5 blocks? Seems unlikely.

I throw over 300lbs of beads on our parade myself so I believe 93,000 lbs is very likely for only 25% of the catch basins.
