I just dont understand this.

But despite the advance, the results of the 2018 survey indicated that almost 40% of Americans would still struggle in the face of a $400 financial emergency. The statistic, which was a bit better than in the 2017 report, has become a favorite rejoinder to U.S. President Donald Trump’s boasts about a strong economy among Democratic politicians, including 2020 presidential candidate Kamala Harris, the U.S. senator from California.

A large portion of the population just cannot handle money.

You could give these people a billion and it wouldn't matter, they'd waste it. This doesn't surprise me at all.

People are awful with money

This isn’t about our oppressive, exploitive economic system. It’s about modern day obsession with owning as much shite as possible.

Don’t even fricking dare try to argue this is because of “the system”

The blame falls squarely on the shoulder of the plebs

This has been a long time coming with the downward trend of saving done by the average American and new products that have seemingly become a necessity.

Yes, many poor people, but nearly half the country not having even $400 for an emergency is another level.

Liberals will say that all the time though. It's not the people's fault it's the govts fault. The govt needs to give tamika more money

Of course not. $400 doesn't constitute and emergency.

An emergency is $1,000 plus easy.

this is silly and subjective. A few years ago 1k would have been an emergency for me. Now it’s like 10k.

The inability of some to make sound financial decisions is not, necessarily, a direct reflection on the economy as a whole.

So get fricked Kamala.

This is misleading. Many working class Americans live paycheck to paycheck, and a $400 "emergency" happens at least once or twice per year. They may not have an extra $400 in a wallet waiting, but could muster up the money quickly if needed. They might be tight for a few weeks or months, but they aren't bankrupt from the incident.
