I have this strange approach to life: I support good behavior and condemn bad behavior. You dont get the benefit of the doubt because you skipped college and thought it would be cool to carry a gun everywhere.

The guys lawyer states the cops asked him to put away his phone and he didn't. Watching the video, the guy clearly has his head down as the black officer starts walking towards him, grabs him, sweeps his leg, gives him some knees to the gut and punches him several times till he knocks him out.
Ive watched the video 10x over...I don't think he said anything to the cops, they just got upset cause the guy didn't want to sit down or put his phone away. He wasn't a suspect, so he had every right to not do what they asked
Agree on your last point, the body cams will be crucial, that's if they even had them turned them on

If there is no body cam footage, the officers are screwed. This will be on story I will follow as more info comes out.
ETA: HUGE payday for the guy if no bodycams too

There’s bad cops just like there are bad waitresses, bad accountants, and even bad priests.
All you can do is prosecute the officers to the extent of the law. It amazes me that people think we should never witness a bad cop ever again.
This issue is less about racism and more about people being bad at their job. Something no one has a solution to.

I think there is a broader issue
We have too many laws, and we've created a police culture where you have to comply with dumb orders over minor offenses to avoid getting your arse beat
It's almost as though we're teaching cops their job is to never back down or compromise under any circumstances, which to me, seems to put cops in a shitty position. I'm speaking broadly, I know some cops probably do this (take a lot of shite without increasing their use of force), but a lot don't, it would seem.

Agree with that. And unfortunately the job attracts those kinds of people. To be fair, there has always been problems like this, it just wasn't an issue when it was only black people on the other side of the tracks. Now thanks to the war on drugs and ever increasing laws, it's affecting everyone.
1st step is to decriminalize drug use across the board. (And if it was me I'd say totally legalize it.) If that happened a HUGE amount of these issues would decrease. Theft would go down, etc.
