I imagine there's more to the story, but that doesn't look good at all...

I am thinking they asked him to sit down or something. Did not comply so that gives you the authority to beat the shite out of him??

Almost always is. These videos always conveniently start in the middle of the altercations.

ETA: Although outside of the guy having a weapon, this video doesn't look particularly good. I'll withhold judgment until more facts come out.

Looked he had one hand in his pocket and other on his phone, probably gonna say they thought he had a weapon. I'm usually on the side of police but that was excessive.

If you click the link, there is a 20 min video. Just from watching where it started, the guy leans up against the wall and says something then the 4 officers all converge nearly at once. This is all assumption but he said something, my guess is a threat to the police, that triggered what happened. The video is bad and for now, I side with "they shouldn't have done that" but I do want to learn more of the situation first.

Dude just started wailing on the guy’s face even though he was rolling deep they could’ve tackled him even if there was a problem

I can't see a scenario where that level of force is necessary in almost any police interaction.

The police aren't part of fight club. They are supposed to restrain and arrest individuals, not beat them up.
