Anyone else remember this event as being in the summer and not the fall?

Nope, I remember listening to the news stories driving to school.

Still amazed that even a mall child could fall into this thing.

So did I. If there’s anything more precious and worth protecting at all costs, little innocent children full of joy, love, laughter and wonder discovering their new world is at the top of my list. They are all born that way.

I wish her every happiness and peace in her adulthood.

I remember that...was almost 8 at the time. I remember seeing the hole/well and not understanding how she could have fit/fallen into a hole that small.

I'm sure the movie added some scenes for drama. But, in the movie the dad kept trying to help and they kept sending him away. No way they could have kept me away.

Wasn't it actually "hole" instead of "well" in that episode?

There’s another one about a boy that went down a hole because the men were too big. Kid had balls and got the child.

never heard of it, so went down a rabbit hole (no pun intended) on the event that occurred there. There is some great info online about it and even a couple of really good Youtube videos. Has to be a horrible way to die. Just waiting on starvation and the elements to overcome you.

Also an easily avoidable way to die

30 years later the type of men who made that rescue possible were labeled as deplorable by a leading candidate for president.

I was ten at the time and distinctly remember my dad and all his friends talking about it while we were at the camp during squirrel season. I always tie that event and the Oakdale prison riot together because that happened a month later in November and we knew several people that worked at Oakdale and one of my dad's good friend's brother was one of the guards that was held hostage.

I remember it well. I never doubted that Baby Jessica would be rescued. Those boys from west Texas could drill a well in their sleep.

On 10 June 1981, around 19:00, six-year-old Alfredo walked with his family. He asked to return home alone. While wandering, he fell into an artesian well, approximately 30 cm (12 in) wide and 80 m (260 ft) deep. Rescuers estimated his position at 36 m (118 ft) below ground.

This is where the old saying, "Better to be a fatass than stuck in a tiny arse well." comes from.

There is a big difference between accidentally falling down an unmarked hole in the ground and willfully crawling down one looking for an even smaller hole in the ground called "The Birth Canal".

This seriously could be the worst way to die. Not only a slow death, but unable to move at the same time?! I can't imagine how mentally stressful it was
