the amount of people that live in a flood zone and don't have insurance will be very, very small

try not to derail the thread over an almost non existent issue

This is such a stupid statement. There's a difference in paying people to have more kids, not work, and being a drain on society vs helping working class people in a time of need.

Well said Stout. The vast majority of these people aren't living off the government teet being that they own homes. And the vast majority aren't sitting in front of their homes waiting for someone to come help them.

These are the people we should be helping. We want these people back being productive as soon as possible.

If you're going to be anti-big government and call out welfare queens, don't be the first to line up for your FEMA money.

If you're referring to the small number of people that own their home outright in a flood zone and opted out of flood insurance, you have a point.

If you're referring to the larger number of people that took on water and are not in a FEMA designated flood zone, surely you can understand the difference in applying for disaster loans. Considering its the same agency that certifies and approves these flood zones...they can make up for their error.

Yall are arguing over shite that isnt the majority of what is going on.

There are thousands more homes without flood insurance and NOT in flood zones that did flood. Those that live in flood zones without flood insurance are minuscule in number compared to the entirety of SELA affected.

Man that is depressing to read.

Is it? I read it as getting a bonus 7500 on average without having to pay any premium at all. Yes it socks for people that have to start from scratch. But I don't think itso FEMA'so responsibility to step in and give everyone the limits of policies just because.

B, C, and X Zones don't mean you can't flood.

Correct. However, given the frequency of these types of events. There's something wrong with the data.

You think these people that keep posting that crap have family affected without insurance and tell them "well....should of had flood insurance" when they are talking to their crying, stressed out family members over the phone?

It's not that we think those people shouldn't receive help; because they should. But it should be in the form of SBA loans or charities, not for those that don't qualify for FEMA assistance. Those qualifications are in there for a reason, government shouldn't just hand out money just because someone is sad.

ETA: If you want to help your father, you should try to contact Todd McClure. He is a former LSU player and is starting up a non-profit to help those in need. He has been pretty active on Facebook about it and things are progressing fast. Good luck.

maybe maybe not. my opinion is any federally backed loan should require flood insurance. I mean, we have to carry fire insurance, i don't know what the probabilities of my house burning down but that ain't that likely neither.

So much callous stupidity in this thread

Some of the internet-attitudes toward those whose lives have been ruined are just sad
