For me Finn's wasn't as good after Bookoo bbq closed. I went for burgers and drinks mostly. I could never really enjoy the food as much after. Then started watching away saints games somewhere else. I can't remember last time I went there.
From 09-13 I was there at least once a week.

The location of this shooting isn't the hood. You really aren't safe anywhere in New Orleans. The city has never been worse.

First of all I worked on Jeff Davis and Baudin the first 4 years of my career (15 years ago). I’ve been to several shootings and stabbings in and around that neighborhood. The only thing that’s changed is white hippie transplants have moved in. It’s still the hood, obviously because they’re still shooting each other in that area.
I’ve been on Clara and Valence for the last 11 years. The same area cash money rapped about. Same, white transplants have moved in the area over time. House next door was shot up a year ago. Still hasn’t changed.
New Orleans is one big hood. The only shootings you hear about are on the news. Plenty go unreported by the media.

The last area holding on is Lakeview and maybe Audubon place. The rest is garbage, full of thugs and animals willing to kill you without a thought.

I’m too vested, and make too much money too leave my job, but I live 30 miles out that shite hole.

Meh. It won’t collapse for real, but I know what you mean.
Trust me I get tired of seeing these murders. Tired of working these kids in the streets.
Tired of watching the same crime, by the same people.
It’s not easy on the mind, and it’s like watching the city you grew up in turn into a 3rd world country.
10 more years and I’m out.

Cajun77 is spot on. Even Lakeview the metastasis is occurring. People who don't want to see it are in denial.

I will be downvoted to hell

Yes New Orleans crime is turning for the worst and yes I wager to say it is now a shite hole

But all of you people talking about how Mardi Gras is going to be dangerous this year insinuating tourists are going to get killed and what not and gloom and doom

Mardi Gras this previous year was one of the safest most uneventful ones in recent history. If I remember correctly.

Some posters here salivate at the idea of a Mardi Gras mass shooting. It is strange.

There’s a reason Mardi Gras is safe. It’s the city’s baby. MUST NOT have large amounts of crime around parade routes make national news.
Crime still happens during Mardi Gras, it’s just rare that it’s enough around parade routes to make a splash.

Parade routes are normally safe, especially if you know where to go/not go.
Basically magazine to 8th street, then you’re on your own.

I like the ones who say riders need to have bullet proof vest on. Like people are just randomly shooting folks on floats or something.
One thing I know is I won't be parking in the hoods uptown this year for parades like I used to.

But back on point, this really is getting unreal with the crime in the city. I'm starting to worry about my company willing to stay downtown. They might just decide in a few years to close up and head to Houston with the other division.

And so far we've been lucky that the tourist aren't being hit with violent crime in any big way so the rest of the country/world really hasn't become spooked and are still coming to visit. On a local and regional level, more and more are deciding it's not worth coming to the city.

NOPD should go on strike so gras can be moved to Met & Kenner again. Happened in the late 70s or very early 80s.

If you are a thug, and want to do thuggish things at MG, what’s your strategy?

Do them where it is not expected.

Just because last year was relatively safe doesn’t mean that this year will also be so.

The Risk v Reward of riding or spectating at NOLA MG doesn’t work for me, maybe it does for you. Good luck.

A war zone is ongoing in most American cities but NO has one of the biggest. It's the poor me mentality that drives it. To stop being an alcoholic the person has to stop saying poor me or will ultimately say pour me a drink. These folks are addicted to being lazy criminals
