Anyone notice the trend that more merchants are charging back the 3% credit card fee to the customer. First, they wouldn't take cash because it's dirty and forced everyone to use a credit card. Now they want everyone to pay the credit card service fee for the convenience of accepting credit cards.

That's usually against the ToS of their credit card processing provider

I know when I owned a gas station my processor was very clear that you aren't allowed to do that

Maybe things have changed or they don't care but it's a cost of doing business and seems petty to pass it down to the consumer

As of the moment, I only do business with one place that charges the 3% fee. They also take cash, but I don’t mind paying it on the purchase amounts that I make there.

I've noticed price differences at some merchants. Either they're passing on the fee or discounting cash purchases.

Some states have laws against it. Currently Louisiana does not.

A lot of businesses are doing it, especially restaurants, with margins getting tighter. So either they are going to hide it and have a price increase, while others choose to charge the client and be upfront about it.

One or the other. They can’t have it both ways. If fees charged by the CC companies are killing them on cheap purchases, then accept cash.

I won't pay it. I started boycotting places that do it.

The ONLY reason I use credit cards is for the cash back. If businesses are going to negate my cash back, then eventually if everyone does it then I will pay with cash or personal check like an old baw.

And trust me, I'll take 2 minutes in your businesses' line to fill out my checkbook. Joke's on you.

Glad to see a refreshing thread here.

We need to combine it into a :
best place to buy a po boy that doesn’t charge a 3% fee where I can avoid getting my car broken into and also sells crawfish for under $12.99/lb?

The car dealer I used to use for service does this. Also a Honda dealer.

AT&T cell service removed my deduction for paperless autopay a few months ago that I had auto charged ti my credit card. They never let me know, just started charging more per month to my bill. I had to use a debit card or my checking account to get the deduction.

They went back this month and credited me all the months they had overcharged me. Looks like they got some blowback on that new policy. Lol
