I didn't pick them, chief. The article writer did based on their violent crime rates.

at the end of the day, the kids we "invest" in will still go home to broken homes run by uneducated people with generations of ignorance protruding, surrounded by the lower class mindset of the larger population of their area. the state can't fix that
You seem to be putting a lot of blame on the underclass. The truth is the underclass has always been with us and always will.
It’s only recently that the enlightened class killed religion and family structure for the lower classes, though.
It’s one thing for 140 IQ people to play with drugs and hedonism and then settle into a life of work and responsibility. They can even throw in a divorce while they’re at it without causing any real troubles, because both spouses are quite worldly and self-sufficient.
Now apply that same hedonism and moral relativism to a lower-IQ, resource-poor population, and you end up with rampant single motherhood, lifelong drug addictions, and just general shittiness and decline that the higher classes then spend money trying to insulate themselves from.
Combine that with social spending and policy that brings out the worst in people, and you have the present.
Edited to not appear to blame Democrats

money def allows for far more bad decision making to result in less consequences though but I don't think politics has anything to do with that

I honestly didn’t mean to make it partisan.
The enlightened class in 2018 are all progressive in this context.

100%
It’s money and brains that make the difference.

I don't think they even throw money at it anymore. The politicians simply funnel money to their cronies via pet projects.
It aint lack of funding. Its lack of proper spending. and that's at every level from state legislature to local school boards.

I see 0% creativity going on by those in power to fix the economy. The state simply cannot continue to live and die based on how the oil and riverboat casino industries are doing. These stats should embarrass most of the residents but they absolutely won’t. Louisiana ranks at or near the bottom in education, healthcare, and opportunity and near the top in obesity, stds, and crime.
We should be pushing for more tourism. New Orleans is a fine draw on its own, but straight tourism (the state has Civil War battlefields, significant political tourism sites in Baton Rouge, particularly the state capitol building, and many others), plus recreational fishing/hunting that we could make MUCH easier for out of state folks if we wanted to.
But, what do I know? I'm just a lawyer. I'm not an "expert" on the economy or tourism.

We have to gas them.
But seriously, making sterilization mandatory for welfare recipients is eventually going to have to happen. They are reproducing at a higher rate than the productive folks.
That, or stop giving them raises to make more babies.

Yeah thats never going to happen.

Much better and logical solution.

That’s what’s so crazy about the state of Louisiana. We have so much poverty in this state it’s insane. On the flip side we also have a lot of wealthy people here. The middle class in Louisiana has shrunk tremendously over the years.

As a Houma native it is crazy to witness the explosion of Heroin in this town along with illegal immigrants. The east side has turned into little Mexico.

Maybe, but I tend to believe that Louisiana is simply falling behind.

I am so pumped that all this negative shite keeps coming out about Monroe because I just moved back here from Texas for work (that's kinda an oxymoron given everybody from LA moves to TX but I did that 25 years ago). Will be moving the family and getting a house when they are done with school in June so hopefully all the prospective home buyers moving here will read this report and keep looking elsewhere.
I want my pick of cheap housing because in North Monroe, the only crime you have to worry about is maybe some punk kids rolling your house.

Yeah why would you want responsible and law abiding home buyers? Housing can just get cheaper and cheaper and invite more low income criminals in.

Well, around 35-40% of LSU grads were actually FROM Texas to begin with and payed out of state tuition to be here, so technically, THEY paid for it.

Logan Utah (14) doesn't belong on this list. The rate may be up, but look at the total number.
5-yr. violent crime rate change: +38.8%
•2011 violent crime rate: 47.7 per 100,000 (total: 61)
•2016 violent crime rate: 66.2 per 100,000 (total: 90)
That town is probably safer than any town in Louisiana
Wonder what the demographics is for that town.

Looking at the states biggest expenditure every year, i noticed that the largest was basically free healthcare for the poor. I read an article as well that stated that the way Louisiana pays providers is different in how the norm is. If they were to fix that and adjust it to the norm, there would be a significant reduction in what is paid and the state would be in a better financial situation. Would the politicians find a way to throw money away/ waste it? Not out of the question that they wouldn't.
