Well all know what the biggest issue regarding our education system is in our public schools but nobody wants to say it publicly and no politician is going to go near it.

W people dont want their kids stabbed in public school so they pull them out and they go to private school. The state continues to throw money at the problem facing public schools. They also make teachers produce mountains of data on what they’re doing in the classroom to allocate for why Jerome isn’t performing as well as Sally... if that happens, the state wants to be able to point to the teacher and put none of the blame on the student or his/her parents. Never mind the fact that Sally has 2 parents that actually care what happens to her. It’s a wasteful system that goes nowhere and we aren’t addressing the real issues at home with these kids.Teachers can’t really do any real teaching because they have to cover their arse every time a black kid is failing

FYI, Louisiana has led the country in murder rate for like 29 straight years.

there is no "investing" in the underclass

how do you suggest we combat their issues/beliefs? serious question

we can have small success stories but it's pretty much impossible to change our large populations of underclass. we'd have to remove a generation or 2 from the lower class mindset/culture entirely, which means basically forcing upper-middle or upper class families to adopt the children. we have to use the state to segregate and stigmatize the lower class mindset as well and hope it becomes eradicated

how else do we do it? like a real, not totally illegal and possibly immoral, plan?

at the end of the day, the kids we "invest" in will still go home to broken homes run by uneducated people with generations of ignorance protruding, surrounded by the lower class mindset of the larger population of their area. the state can't fix that

Well Nola, Baton Rouge, and Monroe are definitely run by African American Democrats. As well as every NELA delta town plus all the towns along the Atchfaylaya, the River Parishes, and most of the towns along the Bayou Teche.

Lafayette and LC are run by Republican Whites

Don't know about the rest.

So the state is full of unproductive dumbshits, and one of your solutions is legalizing weed?

You're always railing about LA, yet you're applying for a state job per your other thread. Odd.

Someone has to fix the problem.

Sure, I hammer Louisiana here and it’s honestly probably a bit more than I should. I don’t hate this state or the people, I hate what years of corrupt leadership and religion has done to it. We are so far behind the rest of the country in many categories. But I’m not going to be one of the college educated that leave the state that I contstantly bitch about. We’re going to stay here and sink or swim with it.

I don’t think a lot of people in the NO or BR areas realize just how bad rural Louisiana is. Litter, dead dogs, meth, and F-250s being sold on Craigslist.

I'm not trying to be the the racist frick on here but fact of the matter is if you take away the crime committed by blacks, this is a non issue.

Sadly as long as the trouble stays in their part of town, nobody cares.
Nobody.

I could keep going.

And all the California ones are more Hispanic than black. El Centro is a border town

I come from a family of teachers, and I can attest this is the truth.

Anytime a student doesn't perform, it's the teacher who comes under scrutiny, not the student and not the parents.

Couple that with everything else teachers are expected to do to compensate for shitty parenting, and it's no wonder our education systems are failing.

And I'm just talking about your good teachers, not the multitudes of shite teachers who can't be fired bc of teachers unions.

It's all pretty depressing if you look at it. Yes, if I had kids, I'd move to the best school district I could or I'd sacrifice and pay for private school.

Our demographics do us absolutely no favors, so that financial burden is always going to be there. We can’t continue to operate like it’s 1985; those types of industry of the past don’t work when there’s no money floating around. People aren’t going to lose their meth money at casinos anymore and NOLA isn’t going to generate any tourist $$$ as long as you have the same chance of getting stabbed and mugged as you do getting out alive. These are the same reasons why the state loses an astounding number of our college graduates; there’s absolutely no industry beyond O&G. I’m not even a pot head but you’d have to be blind not to see the gigantic economic opportunity in pot legalization (which will be legal in all states within the next 20 years) but Louisiana will be one of the last to legalize of course due to our religious politics.
You are so right. The fix is so easy. Legalize marijuana and go balls to the walls hard on violent crime. It is time that we buck the failing system that was laid before us.

Yeah, when I read the list I thought, "there's an awful lot of majority-white towns on this list, but I have no doubt that fact will be almost entirely ignored by this board."

It is pretty surprising. I think the metrics are measuring more ‘upticks’ in crime rather than traditionally criminal cities. I think they purposely excluded those cities and doctored the metrics to measure specifically increases in crime to make it seem like less of a race issue.

Ex. Sioux Falls doesn’t have a higher crime rate than Detroit but Dtown has always had incredibly high crime, so that’s why it’s not on the list.

Understood and I agree, except the religious complaint.

Yeah it's kind of a dumb list. If a city had 2 murders last year and 1 the year before than the murder rate went up 100% and it could still be one of the safest places in the US.

well it does say where crime is SOARING. I'd assume that the crime you see in Chicago and Detroit has been pretty level for about a decade or so and only deviates +/- a few points yearly.
