About 50 weeks ago, America squandered what we won at Yorktown by electing tRump.

Good thing the French crown made that investment in us, if effectively bankrupted the crown and France who was already in a food shortage amid a population boom. Louis XVI was a most ineffective and unpopular king, the last king before the French Revolution began, but that was the best thing he did by far.

Our French alliance in the Revolution would end up leading to some real troubling political moments during the French Revolution.

I doubt Rochambeau said that.

Bottom line, without France, we'd still be British subjects.

No. We wouldn't.

Without France the war would have extended into a perpetual guerrilla conflict that we would have won within a couple of decades. We wouldn't be British Subjects 200 years later.

Yorktown is awesome. Driving the battlefield tour gives one a sense of what it was like. Amazing in its own right. The Victory Center is a must see!

Always good to learn a little history on the OT. It's not that often we ever learn shite from this board.

Yep. Yorktown was made possible by the French navy.

Yeah, I'm appreciating all the credit being given to France in this thread.

However.

Let's remember why Cornwallis was in Yorktown to begin with. It wasn't because of some past success in battle. He was finding it impossible to pacify South Carolina. Patriot militia activity and British defeats/lack of decisive victories at King's Mountain, Cowpens, and Guilford Courthouse basically drove Cornwallis to conclude that he needed to go to Virginia to destroy the source of Patriot supplies.

So while France certainly was there with the assist at the end, it was the Americans that did the dirty work down south.
