i agree completely with this. Also enjoyed that thread.
Guess to have all this hate in your heart I can understand why you would have a piece of shite ticker.
the quarter is nicer now then it was then. I saw pics of it in the 60's and 70's.
I HATE the assholes who say flood the city. What a dick.

Only way to fix this is to have a major long term campaign to eradicate drug lords and traffickers. Problem is these New Orleans Yats don't want to do anything to take back their city.
If only cops would start arresting people for drugs then maybe Nola would have a chance. Maybe our leaders should declare a war on drugs or something.

is it time to start putting metal detectors along bourbon like memphis did with beal street?

This might have been posted already but i'm not going back to search for it. They need to assemble a group of NOPD that their sold responsibility is to patrol the area of the French Quarter 24/7. I mean full patrol. Make their presence known that shite like this will not happen in the French Quarter. Problem IMO is that up until late the major crime that involved shootings and killings did not really happen in the affluent white, or tourist areas. It was like people had the mentality that it's not effect me and where I live so why should I care. Now crime is getting more widespread and shite like this is happening in area that were previously "safe areas" NO needs to control this crime from happening because as much as people don't want to admit it, this could eventually lead to people not wanting to visit NO anymore. NO needs to act swiftly and show their citizens and the world stuff like this will not be tolerated and that they are doing things to address this immediately.

That would be a great idea, and I thought about that, but there are WAY too many points of entrance to Bourbon. Way more than Beale. Not to mention way more people.

Memphis did that? So people can't bring weapons into Beal? Beal is considered something other than a public area? I don't care but I'm surprised the NRA didn't throw a fit.

When I started living there, you could walk right in. By the time I left, you had to go through a police barricade and metal detectors and had your id checked.

Why is everyone always disproportionately concerned with drunken tourists?
I don't want anyone to get shot, but the future of the city lies in the hands of the residents. The tourism industry is a crutch that does not lead to long term prosperity. You haven't built much of a city when all you have is one safe playground for tourists.
Also, tourists contribute to the problems as well. They are buying cocaine from the dealers too.

NOPD already has one precinct that does nothing but patrol the quarter. These criminals do not care about cops and crowds. Ones in the past have literally opened fire in crowds with cops 30 yards away. What they need to do is beef up plain clothes patrols, and maybe assign a special state police troop to this area to aid in this. Those guys take no shite.
Its very simple that you set up a guard and a gate at every cross street. If that's what has to be done, we have to do it to protect out most valuable asset, tourists.

less than 1% of them "contribute" to the problem, most are here to have a good time and weren't expecting a bullet wound to the face after singing karaoke

I doubt it's that low, but the point is that drug dealers hang out in the FQ to push product to out of towners.
Why would they go to the FQ to sell to their local homies?

You think more than 1 in 100 people that are visiting the city are going out and buying blow from street dealers? That's fricking ridiculous.

If only the people we elect to represent our interests could come up with a way to prevent turf battles over the illegal drug trade, perhaps less innocents would be caught in the crossfire. Hmm. ETA Imagine if the solution could even generate tax revenue!

I'm on my phone and I misread. I thought he meant less than 1% of drug sales are to tourists.

If only the urban black community took responsibility of its own problems and did something to better themselves. Hmmmm.
