Damn. Surreal. My gf hangs out a block from there all the time and is tell her please please call me and let me walk you over to either my place or wherever you are going. Not that you can prevent where a bullet goes but I guess I have another sense when it comes to this type of shite. I'm very aware of my surroundings when others think I'm full of shite when I point out shady shite going down or about to go down.

Just a perfect example of we are not shielded from the woes of society.

For a southern message board this place is pretty good. But I roll my eyes at "post racial" whites here as well as the frequent "what's wrong with black people threads". Like this one has become.

I was out in the city until 3am last weekend. Being touristy on Bourbon and at the Casino.
I really don't worry about this kind of thing.
It can happen, but so can getting struck by lighting in the rain, or having an 18 wheeler smash my little Tacoma on the interstate.

I'm hoping the police make arrests quickly.

Yeah take these kid thugs off the street.

I'll tell you the only time I have ever been scared with a fun in my face was when it was a 14-15 year old in the old lafite. Kid could barely handle the 45 and I just know he was about to shoot me over $5 in my pocket.

One of my best friends has a son that had to go to one of the "last chance schools" over a bag of weed and my friend is scared for his kids life. Something like 22 kids have been shot in his graduating class just this year. One kid that died us suspected of having double digit murders under his belt. Also in front of his grandmothers house where the dad is a nopd detective a frickjng 12 year old shot one of my friend's child's best friend. It really is crazy and society needs to step up or it will just get worst

it's the teenagers that are scary, not the thugs in their 20s and 30s.

the kids will kill you, the older ones probably won't. i don't think most people realize this.

What was the saying back in the 90's, if you from the projects and make it to 18 you a grown man. These thugs are killing each other at 15-16

It's just a different culture. Death isn't the same to the entire population it seems. My best friend's older brother got shot 17 times. And he said I was weird when I teared up from my dog dying last year. He honestly didn't understand it. He is a great guy but just grew up so surrounded by death that it really is another Sunday at a funeral for him seeing a best friend in the casket.

Hard to explain

SuperSaint, what program(s) do you participate in? I'm moving back to NO in the next 6 or 8 months and i'm looking for something worthwhile to associate with.

It's crazy.

It's especially prevalent in Chicago right now. You have rappers who have "made it," so to speak, in the streets set trippin' and killing people. They just don't give a frick about human life.

I know the news likes their "if it bleeds it leads" thing, but I wonder if murders and crime weren't covered as much, what effect it would have on society...

I'm well aware of his MO. New Orleans doesn't have rockclimbing or snow boarding and thus is the worst city in the Western hemisphere.

CO is awesome. Where else can I go watch Batman at the theater and get gunned down? Or be having lunch at my suburban school and watch my classmates be massacred.

At least in Nola you know which areas aren't completely safe and extra caution should be taken.

The difference is the frequency of the two separate situations. One is reaching epidemic proportions while the other is anomaly not the norm.

Stats support this. So we gonna do about it?

In Nola the bad area is right down the street from the good area. Its marbled, unlike most cities that have clear blocs of bad areas that are easily avoided and not near tourist attractions.

Despite those terrible and tragic events mentioned, there is still a much better chance of being a victim of a violent crime in NOLA

Yeah, but no one's getting gunned down at the Palace movie theater in suburbia. And kids aren't getting murdered at school believe it or not. I, as a local, know what areas are OK and what areas are sketch. In CO I bet most of those killed felt safe in their school and theater.
Nola needs to change no doubt. I'm just responding to the CO douche. Nowhere is as safe as one thinks.

Actually, there are statistics that prove NOLA is a very dangerous city and you are much more likely to be victim of a crime there

There are plenty of places doing good work. Check YET, I think they are associated with the boys and girls club.

Most of my mentoring has been young adults that have been involved with drugs. It was something I can relate to. I admit my life hasn't allowed me to do as much as I would like recently but I plan on getting back involved.

Bridge house has been an advertiser on Tiger Dropping for a long time and they do great work in the city.

Oddessy house is one of the only detox centers in the city for low income and the homeless. I would go their and help guys dress well and help type up resumes for people.

I'm just saying the things I'm familiar with but there is tons of organizations doing great work.

Something as easy as being an assistant coach for a ball team and being around the kids can be rewarding for the children and yourself.

I'll admit in selfish and I may get more out of doing things like that than I give but that's just me.
