It’s insane to me that anyone would buy any engine with cylinder shutdown.
Just like it’s insane to me that some people don’t immediately disable stop/start.

To be even more precise, current 5.3 engines no longer have AFM, they have DFM which is a different system.
My 2009 GMC with AFM eventually started eating oil. My 2016 with 5.3 AFM worked fine. The 2024 I have now is DFM.

Not easy to do on all vehicles.

Get the Diesel. Way more power than the5.3 and more like the 6.2. Quiet and 24 MPG. On my second Yukon XL Denali with the Duramax Diesel. Best vehicles I've ever owned except my 911 GTX Cabriolet.

I love the way they look. However, I am just not all about these new vehicles that you can't work on. They have essentially made it so that you have to go to the dealer to work on stuff. independent shops have to pay a handsome fee to have access and even be able to access the codes, clear them, etc...
add to it, that I cannot stand all the new "safety" features, and self drive, modes, etc...
I'm really leaning to buying an old 90s model and just drop some cash to rebuild it when it needs it.... sooner or later you won't be able to get parts, I know...
oh yea.... STAY OFF MY LAWN>

Probably 70-80k too. They can keep em.
The top of the line ones, yeah. Right now you can get a brand new 2026 GMC Sierra Elevation for around $40k.

Me no like.
Give me my center shifter 22 at4x. Checks all the boxes and then some. Sure, engine locked up at 50k but got a new one. 10 more years to go.

They were just at the white house trying to get Trump onboard with right to repair laws for the Detroit 3. He said no.

I have said the same. My "new" vehicles will be old vehicles that don't have all this tracking stuff, and the power train is serviceable by anyone.

I bought a used 2020 Silverado 1500 4x4 2 years ago knowing about the cylinder shutdown, so I bought a diagnostic performance chip to prevent that. Stays on 8 cylinder.
Also, I have no complaints about the 2020 Silverado. So far, it's been very reliable

If it has super cruise then yes it will have the eye tracking technology which is only engaged when using super cruise.
Sorry if asked, can you not wear sunglasses with super cruise on?

I was in same boat on the Yukon XL. Went with the 3.0 diesel instead of the 6.2. 0 complaints about the baby Duramax.

Yes I wear sunglasses with super cruise. It has not busted me about eyes on the road.
My wife did not wear hers when she drove and it gave her grief about looking at the road. She briefly picked up her phone.

I remember when GMC’s were way better looking than Chevys from the grill and that’s all I drove for a long time. But I have to admit GMC went to the paw-paw old man look with all that chrome and old man styling. I’m surprised it doesn’t come with double step ups. Ironically they load up the interior with stuff no 80 year old will have a clue how to operate.
The poor salesman will get inundated with phone calls from their old customers “I can’t get my 40’s channel on the Xm or my grandkid hooked her phone up to the stupid thing and now mine won’t work. Or how do I get my map on that screen again? Yep those poor bastards at GMC have really done something great. lol.
I’m still sticking with Ford.
