Average US household income is about 70k. Average new vehicle price is around 45k. Average home is around 400k. It's all a house of cards.
Yeah I keep avoiding overpaying for things like housing and it feels like I missed a window b/c of the rates issue...but I know all this shite is way over priced and we can't afford it...but then I think, "Well if everything crashes, life is fricked anyway so maybe I missed a few years in a nice house before society's downfall"

I paid 57 for my 2022 Lariat 4wd. This thread is exaggerating a little bit

The vehicle industry is the new mortgage industry. NINJA loans. No income no Jobs no assets. You can buy a 85k vehicle with no down payment. What a joke.

My 2013 Silverado with 190k miles, check engine light, and paint peeling is looking better and better every day.

It's almost never a good financial decision to buy another vehicle. It's almost always cheaper to fix them. Even if you need a new engine and it's 6k
But mUh WaRrAnTy!!!111
I cannot understand the thinking of let me ditch a car that is running good and is paid off because of no longer "under warranty" and paying these insane car prices now to get a new car that is "under warranty".
I guess the banks and finance companies love this rationale.

$1500/month car notes
That’s a mortgage. They could buy a 2nd house and rent it out, or they could buy a depreciating asset. And yet they go with the depreciating asset

By comparison, I bought a brand new 2002 Chevy Duramax crew cab with leather interior in late 2001 for $35,500.
While my trunk was being built, the 9-11 terrorist attacks happened, and GM started offering 0% financing for 36 months.
That was a sweet deal.
Trucks prices the last 10 years have been crazy.

They can do this because the majority of folks want a new car as soon as they pay off the old car. They are creating a mortgage industry for auto just like they did for real estate. The rich get richer

$73k for Found On Road Dead? No thx.

I’ll never buy a new vehicle. Always buy one about a year old with 20-30k miles on it
New vehicle loses too much value as soon as it leaves the lot. Terrible investment

No way I'm buying a vehicle that did 30k miles in its first year and then tossed aside.
At 30k miles in year one your factory warranty is running out a year and a half after leaving the factory. No thank you.
A certified pre-owned for a 1 year old car isn't going to be much cheaper than new.

People need to stop paying for them at those prices. Idiots are still running out there buying them so the dealerships leave the prices that high

As long as parts are available keep repairing and driving the current vehicle. Keeping up with the broke Jones is in fact a way to be broke yourself.

Why not buy a used suv. I just purchased a used grand Cherokee for $32,000. People are just nuts
We are buying a used one. We’ve looked at grand Cherokees and she likes them a lot. However, you can’t find a Grand Cherokee in this area for that amount.
