It's a plan to force everyone into mass public transportation. Make vehicles, expensive, unreliable and expensive to fix and maintain. Only elites will have private vehicles.

Holy crap that is insane! I bought my current truck, a 2016 F-150 lariat for $48,000. I don’t get how people are making these payments (north of $1,200 in this example), especially now with new car interest rates at 5-6%. Looks like I’ll just be driving my current F-150, which I love, until the wheels fall off.

Being it's a 7 year old Ford, that probably won't be long.

No they weren't. I have a 2017 and I paid 32k for it. Maybe if you got every option on it but you were still getting 10k off msrp then too.

Yes they were.

In fact, I vividly recall the most expensive Ford F-150 on cars.com in the entire country was a custom XLT for $108,000

I went to every single Ford dealership in south LA and searched across the entire country for months.

ETA: I’m referring to the MSRP

I'll never pay current truck prices. Either they come down or I'll be driving old beaters the rest of my life.

It’s not that bad once you get one paid off. My 2022 Lariat F-250 was 80k and I got a few grand off. They gave 57k for my 2017 and put another 12k down so I financed 10k for 60 months.

I’ll keep it for 5 to 6 years and get another one.

A mid level XLT in 2017 was roughly 35-36k. It might have had a 45k msrp but you weren't paying that so who cares what that number was. That same truck is 50k+ now but people are paying it.

Every ounce of sense I’ve ever had agrees that this is insane.
That being said, maybe they do have the right idea…. Why are we playing by the sanity rules?
F it! YOLO
Give me my free phone, guaranteed income, and WIC card….
Why save?
They’re going to seize our 401k sooner or later anyway…
when the dollar crashes & we’re eating bugs & enjoying it, we’ll probably wish we had that F-250 with the truck nuts to live in…

Only 15% of the population makes 140k+.

I’m glad I get a monthly car allowance at 800 bucks.

They will have 120-240 month loans sooner than later. The lowest term they offered on the loan sheet when we got our boat was 120 months, we just decided to write a check but not everyone can do that. Of course our current vehicles are 10 years old and paid for but there are no problems with them and they just work. I would have to step way down in creature comforts to get a new SUV like mine, it would cost $70-$100k. Sure it would have some fancier electronics and a more efficient transmission but IDC about that for this vehicle. I think I spun 120k on it, if I get anything newer I will keep it and pick up a sports car again, but I am not sure if I will ever purchase brand new ever again.

Holy shite, in 2016 you paid that? I have a ‘17 platinum that I paid $45k for. I’ll drive it until my 2 year old needs a truck.

ETA: I have a Altima work car that I put miles on. My truck just hit 60k miles.

You could absolutely get a new F150 XLT for low $30s in 2017. I know this bc I almost bought one for $34k.

You could option out a XLT to almost Lariat prices but a mid range one was mid 30s. Current prices are nuts in comparison.

I can tell you this. I’m currently looking for a used truck 18+ ram or ford and if any truck comes up 30-38k with anything around 40-60k miles it’s gone before the dealer puts pictures online. I know ppl keep saying the crash is coming but ppl are still buying trucks.

And people cry about their $36,000 student loans while paying much more for a depreciating asset like a car.
