Passing the bar is nothing. The key is getting that 6 figure salary straight out of school.

I wouldn't really consider that "watering down", it just gives options to people that don't want to stay and practice in Louisiana. If you intend to take the La bar and take bar classes you'll end up with a DCL just by nature of taking those classes.

If you look at that in relation to Tail Tiger's post, it makes more sense. He mentioned how Tulane and Loyola don't make you take civil classes which means, after taking the bare minimum civil law classes, you end up failing the Louisiana bar. Which would be the route LSU just took.

Plenty of Louisiana lawyers went to law school out of state and did fine on the bar. There is a common law equivalent to 99% of what's in the LA civil law and the rest isn't that hard to pick up on.
I think Tulane and Lyola's problem is they take a lot of kids who just want to drink.

It will never change unless the Civilian Law track is made optional. For such an inexpensive law school, it's hard to appeal to the strongest out of state students when a 15 of your last 60 hours have to be civilian focused.
For all of Weiss' shortcomings, he realized that LSU would never be able to move into a top tier as long as they couldn't attract top tier out of state talent, or keep local kids home for law school if they wanted to practice elsewhere.
