I disagree. The Civil Code is unique, yes, but that's not a bad thing. While outsiders have a steep learning curve, it's actually a much more common sense system in many respects, especially with regards to property. The comments in the code help ensure judges abide by legislative intent rather than just making it up from the bench. tbh, the Common Law has largely been replaced by civil law style codes in most of the country. It would actually be easier, in many respects, for the rrst of the country to just go ahead and adopt the civil code rather than the other way around.
Also, Louisiana's Civil Code, due to its history of bi-lingualism, has been a model for civil codes all over the world from the Middle East to South America.

Yup. Usually what happens is they go to school expecting to not stay in state after graduation, so they only take common law courses. Then, in their third year, they realize that it's harder to get a job out of state than they thought or that they just like Louisiana and think they may want to stay here and try to take the bar without having taken enough bar classes and fail.

There is no "Napoleonic Code" in Louisiana. This is a common misconception. Louisiana's Civil Code was drafted as a codification of Spanish law in force around the time of the Louisiana Purchase. Our Civil Code borrowed the structure, or layout, of the French Civil Code, but the law itself was mostly Spanish.
LSU has a distinct advantage over almost any other American law school in its excellence and dedication in teaching civil law. Most of the western world besides North America operates on civilian legal systems, not common law. It would be a mistake for LSU to go down the Tulane/Loyola path of watering down its civil law curriculum.

A bit more common in the city. Hottest paralegal I know is married to a doctor and still works. I assume she just likes getting out of the house?

Yeah the rankings are little more than something a school can tout to trick applicants into going somewhere over another. Truth is different law schools are better for different people for different reasons. Southern's night program is great for professionals who want to get their JD. LSU is great if you know you want to practice in Louisiana. Tulane is great if you want to go out of state. Loyola is... well i got nothing.
