LINK.
How does Volvo do this? All their recent cars seem to just glide off in the small front overlap tests instead of coming to a full stop, seemingly absorbing less energy than rival vehicles. Amazing.

I mean how high are you to want to talk about this at midnight on a Friday baw?

Definitely makes me want to consider a Volvo

If passenger safety is TOP priority, you want a Volvo.
I was dead stopped at a red light in a 4 month old Volvo S-70 and was rear ended by a dipshit talking on his cell phone in a Chevy S-10 pick-up. The speed limit was 50 mph on the road I was on and I saw him coming in my rear view mirror. There was no where to go, as I was boxed in by other vehicles on both sides. I don't know how fast he was going when he hit me, but I didn't hear his brakes lock up until a couple of seconds before impact.
As you would expect, there was a tremendous "BOOM", but the impact wasn't as severe as I was anticipating. Surprisingly, my driver's door still worked. I got out, pissed, to survey the damage on my new car. As I got to the rear end, it barely looked touched. The S-10's front end was fricked. Hood buckled, grill shattered, bumper crushed, fluids leaking...
After looking at the damage, I approached the driver to see if he was okay. He was rapidly rolling up his window because, as he later told me, "I thought you were going to hurt me".
Moral of the story: Volvos are pretty bomb proof.

Your frame is bent, baw.

Volvos are so safe because they are always in the shop and you can't wreck them if they in the shop.

Impressive by the Volvo, but the Genesis didn't do bad at all.

If somebody slammed into me with my 4 month old in the car I would murder them on the spot

Both cars seemed to do very well.

Not discounting the Volvo, but in all fairness, the Genesis left front door pillar came into contact with the wall, the Volvo glanced off to the right before coming into contact with it. Big difference in energy absorption.

Yes they both got all green lights although the Volvo did seem to do a little better.

Probably because they invest zero cash is mechanical quality, and all in safety.

You realize that the cars earned nearly identical safety ratings for this test?
The Genesis earned the same grade as the Volvo.

Because they've been doing the small offset crash on their own since 1987, way before the government or insurance companies started testing for it.

because there are only 4 grades. I know which one I'd rather be in.

The other day I saw a CRV rear end a Volvo xc90 on the interstate by Essen. Crv was doing 70 when she passed me and texting.
Volvo was at a dead stop.
Crv nearly endoed on impact. arse end was 3-4 ft off the ground. Volvo did not hit car in front.
