We do that shite to all kinds of animals.

Frog legs, catfish filets, crawdad tails...

Maybe orcas are smarter than we thought

The really cool thing is the orcas flip the sharks upside down which immobilizes them, then they rip their livers out.
Pretty diabolical actually.

Killer Whales are kind of the A-holes of the ocean, but they're awesome.

To tell you how bad arse killer whales are when they show up off California coast, the great whites disappear, even the big ones, they are terrified of them. The are the lions of the sea, the true kings of all Marine life. They are wicked smart. Just like dolphins, which is what they really are, they will cooperative fish with people etc. Truely magnificent animals

I wish I remembered the name of it to post, but watched a documentary on Orcas and it was fascinating. They’re smarter than even dolphins to the point that they actively control their populations to make sure they’ll always have enough food. Males will only seek out mates when one of their pod dies to keep the numbers the same.

They also are “cultural” eaters. They are apex predators and could eat whatever they wanted, but they basically just keep eating what their ancestors ate. Some eat fish, some eat sharks/rays, some seals, etc. Their cultural eating habits are so ingrained that they will literally not eat the dolphin that they “played with” to death even in the face of starvation. This is also the best explanation of why there are no documented orca attacks on humans.

If you ever have some free time, they are one of the most interesting animals to learn about.

We eat cows so probably no food in their food wheel. Wonder fir that changes if we just ate fish before entering the water.

I’m guessing the Orcas are both faster and agile. Bad spot to be as a prey animal.

my gut says they recognize a lot of us in themselves. their behavior, familial relationships, and probably communication, are so human like. I’m biased because I’ve been obsessed with them since I was a young lad, but it wouldn’t shock me if they feel more kinship with us than we feel with primates

You are 100% correct we should be having an Orca week instead of just shark week. Their collective hunting behavior is unreal, they can even catch and eat seals that are 15 feet or so up on the beach. One will rush up and beach itself to send a huge wave which will hit the sleeping seal and as it is washed back into the water a bit another one will grab him. Then he will rush up to send wave to unbeach his hunting partner then they will switch roles.

I have only seen then in the wild once in Gulf of Mexico, they generally stay away from us. This leads to my question, “When do we ever kill orcas? “ Japanese maybe ?

I think cornered wasn’t the best choice of words. One of them basically scares the shark and keeps its attention while the other sprints at 45mph from 200 feet below and ambushes the shark before it even knows what happened. They could only corner them near the shoreline, but the shark can go in shallower water than they can (which is the exact same thing that other fish do to evade sharks).

A shark is no match for even a single Orca. They are just too big, fast and smart.

Everyone shits their pants over sharks, but Orcas are the undisputed apex predator of the oceans.
