did the boat land on them?

Not being strapped in probably prevented them from drowning. Id rather die on impact than drown.

My thoughts too. The boat landed upside down.

quote:from what i understand, all race boats have straps. This was not a race boat. It was a recreational boat modified and was running in an unsanctioned event. Boat looked to have been doing close to 200mph. Hull was probably designed for 150mph.

how were they not strapped in.
I bet they were to some degree... have to be in order to maintain control (ha!) of a boat that powerful in choppy water like that I would think.
The restraints probably failed when the boat hit the water.

Y'all realize that boat was going at or above 200 miles per hour, right? They hit the water at 200 miles per hour which probably killed them on impact or at least broke every bone in their bodies before the boat landed on top of them sealing their fate.

At those speeds you're hitting the water with the same force of concrete. Doesn't really matter if you're strapped in. I would imagine just about any accident in those boats ends fatally.

This. They were likely dead from the strain of the first impact.

This. At that speed it is nearly impossible to control a boat without being strapped in.

When getting to your public duck hole first goes wrong.

They can go much faster than 200 miles per hour.
Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri hosts an annual boat race call The Shootout. It's one of the most famous boat races in the country. Covered by ESPN every August.
Several people have died during The Shootout. A few years ago a boat caught air exactly like the boat in the gif above and killed its occupants. If one of those boats catch air going 200+ miles per hour...the likelihood of survival is incredibly small. The racers know the risks ahead of time.
