It's a vicious circle.

Pitbulls are more prone to aggression than most dogs. It's in their DNA. That's doesn't mean all pitbulls are violently aggressive, but relative to the majority of breeds they are more apt to such aggression.

Unfortunately, that aggressiveness is what attracts most owners. So it makes a breed already prone to aggression MORE aggressive...because that's the trait the owner wants. Like it or not, relatively few families are going out looking for pitbulls to be the lapdog that licks and plays with the toddler at home. That's not to say there aren't pitbulls that do just that. It's just that the majority of their owners don't choose to own them for that purpose. So it creates a perfect storm. A breed prone to aggression owned by a person who wants that aggression.

Therefore, if the desire to take efforts to eliminate that agreession, the logical choices are to eliminate the dogs or eliminate the potential owners. Seeing how it is unlikely the owners will be eliminated, the dog is who has to pay the price.

Most people are leery of Pitbulls for good reason.

Your momma is a great lay if paid correctly, but that doesn't mean I would make a wife out of her.

I'll add that my wife's family has had 5 Great Danes over the years with no problems ever.

I'd be curious to see pictures of the 2 dogs in question. They may be Great Danes, but I've been on websites, e.g., the LASPCA that have pictures of a dog called "Great Dane" that quite obviously was some type of mixed breed.

I’d be curious also. I’ve owned Great Danes for the last 17 years without any issues. I have one now that’s suspect but he’s adopted.

Show us the stats for Great Danes in regard to attacks that result in significant injury or death. Then we can decide.

That is most people's experience with Great Danes. The picture from the media is of the third adult dog (not an attack participant), who is the mother of the puppies and is fairly obviously a Great Dane.

So, I don't doubt they were involved, but I have so many more questions than I would if it was a pit bull attack.
