I've definitely been told more than once in my life "tables are for customers".

A starbucks in NY made us order and receive the order before letting us sit or use the restroom. Guess we had too good a tans.

When a cop asked you a question don't answer "what did I do".

I have never considered myself as racist, but “those people” that make incidents like this about race make me reconsider... In other words, it almost makes me want to be racist just to be on the other side of “those people”

Weird thing going on in my head right now... I’ve never given much thought to race, but ironically the push to make incidents like this about race push me the other direction. If that even makes sense.

Probably were this whole time and just thought you weren't

It is funny how the cop lovers will blindly defend anything the scared cops do.

In this circumstance, this seems more like a Starbucks F up than police. Starbucks made a trespassing complaint, not really up to the cops at that point

I find it hard to believe that the Starbucks regularly enforces this rule for all patrons of all race/ethnicity

I say that because when I was in HS i never got kicked out of Starbucks for just hanging out studying no ordering. I also used their bathroom too

“We apologize to the two individuals and our customers and are disappointed this led to an arrest,” Starbucks said in a statement Saturday afternoon as social media pressure grew. “We take these matters seriously and clearly have more work to do when it comes to how we handle incidents in our stores. We are reviewing our policies and will continue to engage with the community and the police department to try to ensure these types of situations never happen in any of our stores.”

Pathetic, just own up to it and move on. Who cares? Had they been two white, two asians, two hispanics this wouldn't even be a story.

You wonder why some police have such shitty attitudes? This is it. They get called to a violation of the law, respectfully handle the situation and still get shite from the guys you end up arresting. Catch holy hell from the public for doing your job and then, after all that, the people who originally called you flip it around and make you look bad.

This is all missing something...

I really don't see 8 cops.. putting two black guys ( that seem calm and non threatening)
In cuffs... for no reason
. When everybody there had there phones out.

Like ... even shitty cops aren't that stupid.

Maybe the Starbucks employee call was to blame..

I dunno.. seems like a silly thing

While I watched the video, I have only read about half of the thread. Did these two dudes not order anything and were just sitting around? And because they didn't leave when asked, they got arrested and now it's because of their race?

I don't know why, but it is a pet peeve of mine when there is a video or picture of something and you don't get the actual story. I know it happens all the time, but it's just the fact that people are so quick to make assumptions that those assumptions actually becomes reality and the ones who were in the wrong end up being made into a victim.

yea Starbucks overreacted while the black guys where waiting on a friend to arrive. I’m admittedly as back the blue as they come, but I can admit when they are wrong. This is not one of those times.

The news reports say their friend walked in as the cops were making the arrest too

You get arrested for trespassing in Philly. You get handcuffed when you are arrested. That's all there is to this story.

This is only a bad look for Starbucks (maybe), but honestly, most businesses don't want people loitering.

I watched a restaurant owner in New Orleans physically remove four van-dwellers who took a table, ordered water, and stalled the waiter while they went one by one to bathe in the bathroom.

lol at starbucks, if everyone remembers, their CEO was the dickjaw who wanted everyone to accept their white privileges and talk abut race.

And calling the cops on some one, is 100% on you, not the cops.
