I know people who have been on Saboxone for years and haven't touched an opiate in years. I don't really understand that. Substituting one for another I suppose.
Had a friend who went to a Psychiatrist who treats opiate addiction with Suboxone. I went to the appointment with her and he told her to prepare to possibly be on Suboxone for the rest of her life. I thought WTF?!!!
The appointment was $300 a month and $700 for the suboxone refills. Mind blowing.
frick the Doctors and big pharm.

Maybe he was just helping people who were suffering from pain. Would you withhold insulin from a diabetic??

Well yea. But the point was the legal drug is much more addictive and destructive than the illegal drug.
And in the late 80s the government was publicly flooding our senses with JUST SAY NO, while pandering to big pharma. The hypocrisy is frustrating looking back. Damned Nancy.
Only Difference is which cartel gets your money. Well and the collateral carnage associated with illegal drug trade.

Crazy, I was told by a poster here who claimed to be a doctor that the medical community was blameless in this crisis and that it was solely caused by junkies off the street who decided to become addicted
Similar theory to blaming poor mortgagors who took out too much money in loans for the financial crisis.

Same as the statistics for AIDS. Baton Rouge is the supposed leader in AIDS cases and I've never personnally known anyone or heard of anyone who has/had it.

I have always called BS on blaming this on doctor's for over prescribing for pain. Its not the pain patients that are the ones getting addicted. Go look at any clinic, its young people that have traditional addictive personalities. They bought it or stole the meds from family and friends because they liked the high.
I don't know a single person who has over taken Oxy for pain, I know a ton and ran into a ton in the restaurant industry that took it for fun.

Well the junkies do share much of the blame. I've known many. They aren't all victims and weren't all hooked while treated for legit ailments.
I've also known many who are perfectly capable of taking pain pills--at least lower strength ones--occasionally without getting hooked. Even recreationally. It takes a modicum of will power.

I would think most people know or is familiar with at least one person who is/was an addict.

Your premise is flawed, cocaine is a legal drug that can be purchased from a pharmacy. Doubtful you'll find it as a hcl salt, but blow is still a schedule 2 drug with acceptable medical value *according to the dea

I've personally never seen it IRL. Does anyone here use it? Former user? Friend family or loved one use/former user?
I guarantee you know and are probably in regular contact with more than one person that are users.
The media makes it out to seem like all heroin users are complete hopeless junkies that shoot up with needles and can barely function and only a matter of time until they OD and die.
The fact is that many people simple snort heroin the same as they would an oxy pill, and ate functioning addicts. There are even people who are able to use heroin recreationally by only using on weekend nights and never shooting up.
I'm not a user but I am not naive to heroin and opiates. Being in my mid 20s it's unfortunately nearly impossible to not know users my age and to have never come in contact with it. I'm not sure it is possible to be mid 20s in today's America and not know somebody personally that has overdosed and died.
But even still, most people would be shocked how many functioning heroin addicts there are. Not that you can be responsible with a heroin addiction, but if done relatively responsibly people can hide a heroin or opiate addiction for years without anybody but their dealers and peers they use with knowing. I know people who have even hidden it from significant others that they live with.

False. I personally know 2 recovering heroin addicts. They both started with oxycodone prescribed for an acute back injury. Prescription elevated to oxycontin. Started using heroin when they couldn't get enough pills. Thankfully both are in a much better place now.

This is also misleading. To some people, the smallest routine use (like treating an injury) can trigger a physical addiction that supercedes mere willpower. I have had injuries that doctors wanted to treat with opiates, but I asked for a non-habit forming alternative. Turns out naproxen plus acetominephine works pretty well.
I also learned years ago that I hate the way opiates make me feel. Get jittery and can't sleep. I took the pain after wisdom teeth were extracted because that feeling was worse. I consider that a blessing.

I wonder if Wilkinson's pharmacy in Chalmette which was shut down by the FDA was part of this whole scam with this doctor??

Then you're lucky, in a way. Just how I could never be an alcoholic Bc I don't enjoy being drunk and get horrible hangovers.
