long enough to believe there is justification for three lanes on that stretch of I10, and resurfacing would've been more prudent.

How long have you been unable to understand context while reading?

The most important need in Louisiana on I10 is a new bridge in Lake Charles. That one is sketchy as hell.
And its a double winner... because we can take all the guns off the street at the same time.

Any little bit helps. Texas has always had better roads than LA, but you know we've let our roads go to shite when MS roads seem better maintained by comparison.

Exactly, the Westbank Jackholes who voted against a new bridge coming through Sinclair sugar in 2007 are now the same Jackholes screaming about a new bridge (only they want it in Plaquemine) Meanwhile their Parish president and mayors along LA1 got rich off new home developments and took all the money for local roads and ran.

Lived in Breaux Bridge for about 6 months. That stretch of road was terrible. Especially the overpasses and ramps. The potholes were terrible. Glad they are finally redoing it. They need to get both sides of that swamp bridge fixed up before they can even talk about fixing the bridge, which I dont see ever happening in my lifetime and Im only 27.

Louisiana roads are the worst. It's about time the spend a buck. This past year I drove through Texas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Tennessee including Louisiana. LA has the worst roads out all those states and it's not even close.

it should be between addis and plaquemine (north of dow at least) and they need to make a bypass from 415 connecting to LA1 and then connect to hwy 30 on the east side. The amount of traffic it would reduce on the "new" bridge would be amazing. I think this is the only option and a northern loop will never happen because the old bridge sucks

Did you maybe want to edit this?

Don't think I missed anything from your post. Feel free to enlighten me though.

This is Louisiana guys - when a project looks totally ridiculous, just ask “who in the Administration is from the area?”.

so who’s from lafayette?

seems like a waste of money. Use that $190 mil to go towards fixing the BR traffic issue.

Give me a million.

Here’s the plan. Demolish the Washington street exit so one of the busiest interstates in the country doesn’t reduce down to ONE frickING LANE!

My god how hard is that?

I sure hope they continue the expansion for the remaining 5 miles or they expanded it for nothing because it will not alleviate any of the traffic between BR and Prairieville. It wasn't the best situation, but that money could have gone somewhere else if it doesn't go from Highland to Prairieville.

It is going to Hwy 73.

And they are looking for funding to go from 73 to 30.

This was actually earmarked for Baton Rouge traffic.

JBE thought Henderson needed it more.

Maybe it's just me, but I never hit traffic on that stretch

No measurable traffic delays if there isn't an accident.

But it is rough as hell.

I-10 through Lafayette will still be only 4 lanes. I-10 through the triangle of death in WBR will still only be 4 lanes.

This was an incredibly stupid widening project. It badly needed an overlay. It didn't need extra lanes.

Why are we spending $190 million dollars to expand the lanes on I-10 between Lafayette and Henderson?

That is a very bumpy part of I-10. I understand why it needs a new road surface.

But spending all that to widening a rural section of freeway when there are massive daily traffic problems in Baton Rouge and a functionally obsolete bridge in Lake Charles is extremely wasteful. That is typical for Louisiana.

I hear what you are saying but this is how these projects work. You take the funding when it is given. When they built 210 in LKC everyone said it was a boondoggle and criticized them and now we wish it was 4 lanes in each direction. Could the money be spent more wisely somewhere else? Absolutely! Take what you are given and work toward the end goal. Just don’t let them quit after this phase and sit back their throne and admire their accomplishments.

You are so right but until they fix the bottleneck that is entering I-10 off the bridge it will all still be fricked

yes it did. But an overlay would have been sufficient. The money being spent on this project is nauseating.
And as the OP asks, why? I've been commuting on that stretch for over 12 years and there isn't (IMO) a justification for the widening.
Could've overlaid it and put the rest of the money elsewhere.

If they only overlaid you would be the first to complain that they should be adding lanes as you are just another of the board’s serial bitchers. You fricking people would complain if you were hung with a new rope.

If you have commuted for 12 years and can’t see the need for the extra lanes than you are dumb as an oyster and all responses from you are discounted.
