Why are we spending $190 million dollars to expand the lanes on I-10 between Lafayette and Henderson? We increased lanes between Baton Rouge and Prairieville and Baton Rouge and Watson because everyone is moving out there and commuting to/from Baton Rouge but I don’t think that is the case with Lafayette/Breaux Bridge/Henderson.

The sign says "I-10 Freight Corridor" but the basin is going to remain two lanes during my lifetime so not sure of the point.

When you hit the end of the Basin, it's ON. Get everybody out of the way.

That stretch of road was in the running for the worst stretch of road in Louisiana. You get off the spillway bridge and the potholes were everywhere. It needed work done badly.

people from La commenting on roads in other states: wow other states actually pave their roads, look how nice this is!

person in Louisiana sees the state improving roads:

3 lanes from Lafayette only to bottleneck at the Basin.

What could go wrong?

You can only do so much at a time. Do you propose that the State wait until they have enough to widen the entire length of I-10 before they start with any part?

I've been asking myself this question ever since they started construction. Maybe it's just me, but I never hit traffic on that stretch. I know the roads aren't the best, but seems like a waste of money. Use that $190 mil to go towards fixing the BR traffic issue.

Sounds like a brother n law project to me, just like that causeway project to raise the sides to prevent cars from going in the lake.

There is no reasoning with these people that have no clue how things are actually built,.

yes it did. But an overlay would have been sufficient. The money being spent on this project is nauseating.
And as the OP asks, why? I've been commuting on that stretch for over 12 years and there isn't (IMO) a justification for the widening.
Could've overlaid it and put the rest of the money elsewhere.

I think you see it as we are losing money to improve other roads but I don't think it works that way. I believe the feds offer money for improvements but the state can't just allocate that money to certain areas...it's more of a parish wide type of thing. But I could be wrong.

I guess commuting for 12 years makes you a traffic engineer.

It is just you. I've hit traffic on that stretch (westbound) lots of times. Because what happens is people get off the basin bridge and open it up once they get past the first wave of cops/radars. Wrecks galore in that stretch.

ETA: I-10 in Louisiana really needs to be 3 lanes from the Texas state line to the Mississippi state line. And the other states need to do the same all the way to Jacksonville.

190 million to add a lane between laf and henderson. Wow that seems like a lot but hey 90 million for the road and the other 100 million to fill the politicians pockets. Louisiana at it finest. So everyone will be racing to get to the bridge first only to be stuck on it for hours due to an accident

Do you idiots that keep parroting this line not realize that traffic goes in both directions?

Just making sure you realize how stupid you sound. Based on your response, you seem to be OK with it. Carry on.
