My parents go a few times a year, they usually fly on the island. They know the risks but they are committed to a building a community school in the country. They spend their own money and send some every month to their people down there.

I was literally talking to some missionaries last week, who use to go to Haiti on those trips. Never understood why anyone would go do that in Haiti. Central and South American countries are still iffy places to go to, but the odds of something happening to you there is way less than in Haiti.

The people going down there know the risk, but they feel righteous and convicted in what they are doing, which is very admirable IMO. Making such a sacrifice to make the world better is something that most people in this world would never have the balls to do.
