Yes, I was. I'm not denying it. And I'm very thankful.

Rather obvious, but hey, if you got it, flaunt it.

Exactly - the only problem is my gf has a huge family and a shite ton of girlfriends.. she's going to want a big wedding and to do all this shite

Her parents paying?

My wife and I were going to pay for most of ours. My dad offered to help but we started adding it all up and decided we'd rather buy a house with that money. We had a free venue too.

No, I don't flaunt it. I shop in Walmart and Dollar General, remember?

That’s insane. My wife knew it wasn’t worth the money. Hers cost maybe $500. Then we sold it for half that a few years later.

I def don't want to pay for it

Nah her family has a little $$ so i'm sure they would take care of it, I just personally don't want a big wedding myself. I hate socializing with people i don't really know

I think mine was $300 total including alterations. It was a beautiful dress. I’m sad it was wasted

I’ve read many younger brides would rather just get cash for house down payment
reports also say young people aren't interested in buying homes

I have received several "destination wedding" invitations. They seem to be getting very popular, especially in the Bahamas. Unfortunately my schedule only allowed me to attend one of them, but it was fun.

People who pay tens of thousands of dollars on a wedding via financing will never ever be wealthy.

You do not become wealthy by being stupid with money.

Some of the dumbest, most wannabe highfalutin people that I know finance everything and go overboard doing it on things like weddings.

I went to a wedding last summer that was pushing $100k in total cost. It was forgetfully-average and run-of-the-mill.

I couldn't imagine starting off my marriage with that kind of financial stress, but what's odd is they haven't checked up yet. From a $300k home to a vacation in Paris, all the way down to constantly nagging their poor parents (and grandparents) for tens of thousands of dollars to help them out (and their dumbazzes somehow continue to come up with the $ to give them and then bitch about it), they are chugging right on along to the cliff face. It blows my mind.

I'll sleep well though, regardless.

We paid a little over $600 for dress and alterations. Plan on turning them in to baptismal gowns for the kids.

That is a really cool/meaningful idea! And it is worth passing down, too.

My wife’s dress was free, she borrowed it from a cousin. My first wife only spent $200 if I remember right. ‘Bout the only time she saved me money.

They are ridiculously expensive. I will never ever understand spending that much on something that you will literally only wear once.

Look at how Alfred Angelo and David’s bridal closed down so many stores nationwide

David's Bridal had dresses as low as $99. I don't think their problem was people not wanting to overpay (unless the $99 dresses were hideous and the good ones were $1000).

My neighbor growing up lived with her parents until she was 50 and was a cashier at K&B. Met a guy and rented her dress from Sears for $99.00 and was just as proud of that as anything else.

This board bitches about cost of wife’s wedding dress and a cash bar.

The margins must be insane on this market, not just for dresses but everything involved with the wedding.

You get a quote from a photographer for a 4 hour, natural setting photoshoot of a crowd, it’ll be x.

You ask the same photographer for a quote of the same service, but for a wedding, and it’ll be 4x, and in addition you’ll be expected to purchase additional packages, and you’ll often not be allowed access to the digital RAW file. You’ll have to pay extra and on a picture by picture basis for that.

That's what my wife and I did. Went to Destin, and it cost less than $4K. Paid for it all in cash, no debt. My in-laws paid for the reception, and it was amazing.
